Anyone buy a bike on ebay?????
They seem like they have really good deals. I know to look at the feedback and insurance and things like that, but what should I look at for the bike??? I mean what's alot of miles?? And price?? I am looking to get a 01-03 honda cbr 900 or greater cc bike with low mileage. What should I expect to pay??? Thanks.

imho, i would try to avoid ebay at all costs. there are several model-specific boards out there to find good deals on bikes. but if i were to go the ebay route, i would pay attention to seller feedback, and try to set something up in person. that should ward away any potential scammers. keep us posted should you decide to do that though

I haven't, but just very careful. I had a friend who won a bid for a drum set, was going back and forth with the guy selling the set. Finally, found out the guy selling was cool, but there was another guy scamming off and pretending he was guy selling it. Asking for cashier's check. So, make sure to have really good communication w/the person when it comes to a large purchase like that. I stick to paypal. I believe it's safer way of paying. Good luck

I've bought my last 2 bikes off of there. Had no problems at all. There are lots of scammers on there. You just have to realize, if something is too good to be true, then it is. Alot of this internet buying stuff for me has just been to "trust your gut" If you don't feel quite right about something, then bug out!
I've bought 2 cars off of Ebay, but not any motorcycles. Things I look for:
1. Lots of pictures of the item
2. Do they answer questions quickly?
3. A good feedback rating, like 30+
4. If they're a dealership, I feel a little bit better.
5. If you can call them about the item, that is good.
6. If you can do the transaction locally, that is better too.
7. Remember if you have to have a bike shipped, it costs about $500 +/-
I read somewhere that the average motorcyclist rides about 3,000 miles per year. I forget the source, but it was a national motorcyclist group, like MSF or someone else.

Re: Anyone buy a bike on ebay????? (The_Head)
I bought my last car and motorcycle off Ebay, car was a great experience and even made a good friend out of it. Bike was cheap but the guy was a complete tool, I ended up renting a pickup truck and waiting in West VA for 5 hours for this guy, still couldn't beat the price and getting to see the mountains didn't hurt either. I always ask for a phone# and try to talk to them personally and see if they are willing to take the time to talk to you or just want to "unload" their bike. If people take the time and answer all of my questions I usually feel pretty safe. At worst case scenario make sure it's at least close to you so you can do the transaction in person, get a cashier's or check or money order made out to them and you where you have to sign it over to them. If you get there and it's not exactly how you want or how it was described just leave and all you've lost is your time and gas.

best idea with ebay is keep something close. i searched by Region, typing in honda, suzuki, yamaha, to see what i could find. cycletrader experience was bad, only could find bikes in other countries (scams). also if you want, ask the seller to take a picture of the bike with them pointing to something odd, like the B in CBR or tell them to put a can of beans on top of the bike seat (not opened of course) and take a picture. just something so weird so at least you know the bike is theirs or around them.

Thanks for all the input. I have found alot in the local paper. I was reallyl ooking to get a cbr but there are so many kawasaki ninja'a in there for a good price. Are they crap or what. There was a couple that were like 03' ninja 3k miles for $3,500. What is a good price to pay for a 02' or 03' with low miles. I want like a 900cc or bigger. Thanks, you guys have a been a big help.

Thats what I did and it ensures that you can't get screwed over.
