Re: snow tires??
I have had personal experience with Blizzaks. Had a set on my Saturn Ion and my brother had a set on an 85 MR2 that were used (very shortly) on his 08 fit. Great traction, I could pass everyone on the road.
I have heard that the Firestone Winterforce is an older patern of the Blizzak. Not sure of the validity though.

Re: snow tires??
So now I'm debating 195/55 R16s on the stock rims or 175/65 R15s with some steelies. The latter are the same size as stock, the former about 7/16" larger diameter. I can get around the TPMS/traction control issue if need be by pulling the fuse. $165 for the 195s and $128 for the 175s.

Re: snow tires??
I have used Bridgestone Blizzaks and General Altimax's. The Altimax's are good for the price but the Blizzaks were better. The biggest difference I noticed was traction on ice and traction from a stop.

The Hakka's are the best snows out there. Granted they cost a little bit more but are well worth it. FYI, their N.American ops are in ... Vermont. I've read good things about the 7's which are studded. I'd spring for those but the roads here are so warped that I worry about dry/wet stability with studs.
