Rear Spoiler (General Question)
Fair use fiat.
I'm seeing a lot of Fit rear spoilers that look like this.
They seem to be designed for a hell of a lot of down force, so I am curious.
Is rear end lift of the Fit an issue at high speeds? Do we really know what we're doing when we design a rear spoiler like this?
Who's designing these things?

Re: Rear Spoiler (George Knighton)
Most spoilers don't do much until after 100+mph. (Or so I've heard)
Most of the time, it's just looks.
That particular one in the picture is by Spoon.

Actually about 50+ mph is when you can feel the effects from a spoiler.
I have not heard of rear lift problems. I would say, though, that due to its crisp characteristics and ability to oversteer like a FWD, maybe these rear spoilers help counter that.

I'm thinking that a spoiler that radical would have measurable effects about 10 mph less than that. You might not notice it when taking a corner at 25 mph, but you are going to notice it (for good or evil) in even the city miles per gallon.

You can feel the effects of this wing at speeds so low you would be surprised. :-)
My problem with the rear hatch wing for the Fit, the one pictured, is that I think it is going to introduce too much downforce, and maybe even hurt miles per gallon.
That's what my instincts say.
But I await further education.

I think its the seibon Spoon style wing.
To be honest is mainly for looks cause i dont think too many people drive there fit fast enough that rear end lift is an issue.
Seibon is a cheaper version and i wish i had gone that route as i bought a spoon spoiler that was cracked and had issues with the dealer that sold it to me

i would guess that people do just want the cash and the respect, but in any real racing application, it would really be just to give balance to a stronger downforce generator in the front of the vehicle.
i am curious to see the adverse effects on mpg as its likely with a design that increases frontal area.
