Brake Light Problem - 2008 Honda Fit 5-speed Sport
Recently found my brakes lights are not working on my 2008 Honda Fit 5-speed Sport. All of the fuses checked good with an ohmmeter, but I replaced the 15A fuse for the Horn/Brake (position 16 on the fuse block in the engine compartment) just to be sure. The horn works fine.
The lights flash when the door is remotely locked or unlocked so I know the bulbs are good.
The car has been wired for towing, so there is a diode placed in the wiring for each of the following: brake, left turn, right turn and running lights. The turn signals and running lights work fine. I swapped diodes to be sure the brake diode was not the problem. When the car is connected for towing all lights, including the brake lights function properly.
I checked that there is continuity between the lamp harness ground and chassis.
I replaced the brake pedal switch although the old one checked out as good. I tried to verify 12V at the brake switch connector, but found none of the four contacts had 12V until the ignition switch was turned on. I would have thought the brake light should operate without the key in the on position, but even with the key on the brake lights did not work.
I am at a loss as to what to try next.

they used to light without the key on but not anymore.
Turn the key on get someone to depress the brake pedal and see if there is power at the bulb.
Do the running lights work?
