Neither one looks reliable.
Personally I'd recommend a solid spacer.

thus far the Colorado mountain rally lift spacers have been kicking my *** on the install. Getting the fork on the lower control arm on the front is a pain in the ***. Im having to use my spring compressor on the whole assembly while it is bolted in to get it all together. I havent had time to finish it, but I will have a thread up about the crv and the install here soon.

you need to get the springs off to put in longer bolts on the strut right? not looking forward to that. you think that's bad, if you lift with springs its impossible to get them on with your standard diyers spring compressors. luckily I live within walking distance of 4wheelparts, probably be going back, just need to pick up the bolts yet. I believe we have some at work, home depot had diddly for metric bolts.

luckily no, I do not have to take the springs off to put the longer bolts on. The spacer bolts to the strut assembly, then you rotate the top hat 90 degrees to line up the holes on the spacer to the chassis. Pretty cool trick, just a pain in the *** to do final assembly onto the vehicle

If you haven't changed out your ball joints I would keep a close eye on them. The added stress of the lift will wear them out pretty quickly.

An old trick around these parts is to use a hockey puck and drill/cut it to shape. I don't know if this is safe to use as a spacer, but it would work.

I used the sleeve/coilover spring method. No complaints here.

No they are nowhere near safe to use for suspension components. I have friends that used them on trucks as a body lift and had them crack during trail riding.

Default fwd crv lift?? anyone?

First off, im epic noob to the forum but, seriously great info on here! Okay so on too my question. Really curious because im looking into the crv for my wife but, almost impossible to get the awd for a decent price here in Central FL. IS IT POSSIBLE TO LIFT THE 2WD CRV 1ST OR 2ND GEN?!? Is it the same or impossible to do? Little more info. I ask because the little lady is not from my neck of the woods. We moved here from Houston and the rain terrifies her so she wants to get into a taller vehicle. I love and have owned hondas myself so know my way are the motors more or less. However, never owned the crv! We just would like the extra comfort of clearance during the very heavy rains here. Thanks in advance!

P.s. sorry for bringing up a dead old thread but, this discussion seems to have the most knowledgeable on the subject people I could find lol.

What I worked on today, a cheap 1 inch lift for the rear of my CRV...
I bought a 9x9x1/2 HDPE cutting board after looking at a bunch of Subaru forums and seeing how they did it and many of them recommend this stuff. You can get a sheet of 9x9 HDPE cutting board for 13 bucks shipped off ebay, which is where I found mine.
Anyways, I did some measuring and did a test fit with a cardboard ring to make sure it was going to work. I used a 4 1/8 inch hole saw to first score the board where I was going to cut the rings out to get the spacing right. Then I took a 2 inch hole saw and cut out the middle section, after I did that I switched back to the 4 1/8 inch hole saw and finished cutting it out. I bought 1/2 inch thick HDPE and will be stacking two of them for a total of 1 inch lift in the rear only, (little spring sag and a hitch in the back so I am trying to make up for that).

Here is the HDPE sheet after:

Here were the dimensions that I used to cut out the cardboard template with, I decided to go 1/8 inch bigger than 4 inches just because it was the first one I found in the drawer and I wanted to make sure it was big enough.

Here are the rings, almost done just need to mark the stud holes and then buy inch longer bolts for the stud replacement.

Got the one inch spacer lift done today. Hardware note for anyone wanting to do this, 10 mm x 1.25 pitch and for a 1 inch lift you need 2 inch long grade 8 bolts and up from there you go up for the amount of lift you need. Very happy with it, looks great, gained an inch, and ride quality didn't change.

ian1006, how do you secure the extended studs into the mount so that they don't spin when you tighten the nuts?

Spacers aren't really the best option to go check out this link [Guide] Adjustable Lift Kit for RD1 CRV for Under $200

Shameless plug for another forum... that sucks haha. Spacers are a very cheap alternative especially if you are just trying to get rid of sag. No **** you can use full coil overs to raise the car. Something like CRV K-Sports will lift or slam your ride as you like with no real limitations within reason.

Hey so now that my lift is on and I have had the pleasure of exploring all different routes of doing it I just wanted to make a list of various ways you are able to lift it because when you look on the internet you get all sorts of random ideas and a lot of back reading is involved.

1st way:

Lift Springs - these come from only 2 companies that I know off after BDS stopped making them and they are Old Man Emu and Camel 4x4

OME springs which retail about $350+shipping for all 4. I dealt with this company and their customer service is not very customer friendly and also the wait time is about 3 months to get your springs since they are shipped from Australia but I hear they have nice ride quality.

Camel 4x4 springs are the ones I opted to order because they are A. cheaper than OME springs and B. located in the united states so I got my springs in about 2 weeks time. I must say I was very satisfied with their customer service and Eli the owner of the company actually answers the phone most of the time and he is a great person with lots of knowledge in the field and dosnt mind if you pick his brain a little bit on the phone and I am very satisfied with the ride quality of the springs on and off road.

2nd way:

Is to use strut spacers in between the body, these can be used with oem springs to keep the stock ride quality while lifting the same or more as lift springs. The only thing I was iffy with about this modification is if you keep stock springs they have a lot of body roll to them and with the raised center of gravity could be recipe for rolling your vehicle but if used with upgraded sway bars and strut bars could be a comparable way to lift the vehicle safely and much cheaper than springs

3rd way:

Is to actually make your own coil overs for the vehicle. This can be done by using ek coil over sleeves on whatever strut with 9in-10in hyper-coil springs (ordered off ebay for 64.99 a piece) with a front spring rate of 675lbs and a rear spring rate of 375lbs (same as ksport coil overs) effectively providing you with a adjustable ride height for people who would desire such. I have not seen any people attempt this yet I was going to but decided against it since my crv is also my daily driver vehicle. If someone does please post a write up for us so we can admire the work.

Struts:
I used tokico hp struts on my crv lift and they ride nice (i have formerly used these on several civics i have owned) they offer a nice ride with great handling but you can also use bilstein or oem struts if you so desire to.

Tires:
I have heard of people running up to a 31in tire on camel4x4 lift with slight modification to the wheel well. I myself am using Kumho sl671 sa-t 235/7i5r15 they equate to about a 30x9.2in in tire and I get a very minor rub on extremely hard turning but that is it and it is easily taken care of by grinding down a little plastic bump in the inside if the wheel well.

Wheels:

I am using a crager 342 with a 4.25in back spacing(have seen people use a 4in bs as well) and +6mm offset (THESE WHEELS REQUIRE AT LEAST A 1/4IN SPACER TO BE USED) the wheels are great and look great on crv's you can use any steel wheel. I AM using stock lugs for this setup in order to do this with spacers the wheel must be no more than .255in thick at the hub plate with this setup I have 5 turns on my front lug nuts and 4.5 turns on my rear lug nuts I am also using the lowest lock tite on them just in case. I have extended lugs but didn't think it necessary to put them in. The matter of using extended lugs in this application is purely my own opinion I am in no way shape or form telling you its the best way to go. But if you look at osx2000's crv he has had his lifted on stock the almost same setup with stock lugs since 2006. So it is purely up to you if you want to use them or not.

If you have any questions I will be more than happy to assist you as best as i can as I know if was a bi*ch back reading pages upon pages of forums to get the information that I needed to lift my car and that I have posted here. I hope this helps many people out and alleviates some headaches.

Also here is a picture of what my Cr-V looks like after the lift and tires.

Also in my opinion a mod should sticky this.
Totally awesome write up! Big mahalo(thanks) for giving your advice and info about this lift issue and what wheel size to go with suspension...very very informative and useful!! What do you think about the Cragar soft 8s, 15x7, with 8mm spacing all around?? Was thinking about this and getting Camel 4x4 lift springs...more than likely I'll be the first and only lifted 'off-road' looking CRV on O'ahu, Hawai'i!!

Question for you, I have same size wheels with winter tires, are you running lug centric or Hub centric? Do you have any vibration? I have been searching for 3.3" to 64.1mm (stock hub size) hub rings, but never seen any. Did you need acorn lug nuts?

I am planning to use 5mm spacers on fronts then grind the caliper for clearance.

Thanks in advance.

I got hub centric spacers for the front and it fixed the vibrations.
The wheels don't need the rings unless your spacers are completely flat.
But I'd recommend against the generic spacers as the car was shaking very badly - those don't center well at all.

Thanks, can you tell me where you ordered the spacers from. It is hard to find hub centric spacer 1/4" thick.

I got 10mm 5x114 spacers from ebay. I think they were around $55.
