Just bought a 2004 CRV... should I worry about the AC blowing up?
I just got a 2004 CRV with 66,000 miles. I did get a 2 year, 24,000 mile warranty, but now I am reading about all the AC problems.
I am really worried that the compressor is going to blow up. Should I be?

Well I found a much more active forum where I got a lot of answers. If anyone is looking for me, you can find me on http://www.hondasuv.com/members/index.php

My guess is that you're pretty safe. If it was going to blow it probably would have done it by now.

That is awkward, I'm not sure if this is some common occurrence. My sister drives a 2004 CRV and she only recently had to replace her AC compressor and another piece I forget what. But she just did this and she has 205,000 miles.

This is a VERY common problem with Honda. Just google CRV Air Conditioner and you will find hundreds of complaints.

Tony the compressor disintegrates and pieces of the impeller are thrown into the system. The whole system usually has to be replaced.

News to me, and the 5 CRVs in my family, My 99 CRV with 120k has had no problems with the AC, not my sisters 2004 until 205k, or my dads 2001 with 200k, or my other sisters 2006 w/ 140k, 2011 with 90k.
Maybe we've just been lucky.
Please let us know more if you find something out. The only Honda I have that blows warm air is my CBR600RR.

Yeah same here, my sister has a 2005 crv and no issues with the ac system. Just made it to 150k miles.
Funny how you say its a common problem but the last 3 honda/acura models I had never had the compressor fail. Even if they didn't fail I ended up doing maintenance on my ac system by giving new o-rings, cleaned out all the lines and fresh synthetic oil, new condensor, dryer, and evaporator, and changed the oil in the compressor as wellMaybe you should speak from experience instead of copying what is written elsewhere.

You know what it remind me a lot of?
Those messages boards of WILLLLD claims during Toyota's stuck accelerator. How EVERYONE that had ANYTHING to do with ANYTHING was like ZOMG so THATS why I got into accident, I mean yeah I was on the phone, while looking at the vanity mirror, doing my makeup, and giving a handjob, but IT WAS THE STUCK PEDAL OMGZOZOGOZOGZO. I'm sure there were actual claims, but everybody hopped aboard that bandwagon and tried to use it as a excuse for something that they wrong themselves.
See the Toyota issue WAS real, but having fanatics go ape **** over it, and many of the false claims along with the true ones just made it one big mess.
Most of those claims on that repair site were laconic responses of
"ITS THE BROKEN",
"IT BLOWS WARM AIR"
"DEALER SAYS $3000 TO FIX"
"IT DOESNT WORK" "STOP BLOWING COLD AIR AT 82"
"JUST FEW MINUTES OF COLD AIR AND HOT AIR COMES NEXT. ---VERY DISAPPOINTED".
Now, I'm not SAYING, that they're ..... false claims. I'm NOT SAYING THAT, I'm just saying, it sounds.... Trolly Poly. Some of the more in depth ones might be legitimate. But it just awfully sounds bandwagon ish.
I BELIEVE PhotoRod's claim is legitimate, that he genuinely has a issue. But that repair site, WHATEVER site that was. No. I read a few post on hondasuv forums and there is a post or so. It seems to be centralized on the 2nd gens.
The official 2nd generation A/C failure poll - HondaSUV Forums - Discussion forum and bulletin board for Honda CR-V, CRV, Element, Pilot, HR-V owners
It seems very hit or miss. Some are having it, some aren't. Photorod if you haven't read that particular post yet, that link above has some more detail that would be more helpful.
When I worked at a Nissan Dealership, this crazy lady came in wild saying her engine had issues, mech check it out, she never changed her oil, EVER. Not once. In 36,000 miles, which by the way is pretty impressive that the Murano lasted that long. Dipstick near stuck and oil sludge'd like Hersey syrup. When approached about it
"ma'm whens the last time you changed your oil?"
"My what?!?"
Your oil.
"YOU GUYS DO IT I BRING IT HERE, AND NOW YOU BROKE IT"
But we have no record of you ever coming here.
"ITS THE CAR, I change the oil all the time!"
where?
"AT DEALERS! Whatever! Its under warranty! FIX IT, you FIX things DONT YOU? when its under WARRANTY SEE? And my car is Under warranty!"
But ma'm when you don't
*Customer turns Super Saiyan*
"FIX MEH KAAAAAR NOOOOOOOOOOWUUUU!"
I was a I was vehicle sales, but it was impossible not to see crazy lady throw that tantrum.

Re: Just bought a 2004 CRV... should I worry about the AC blowing up?
The worst part is they didn't know what was fixed, it could've a cracked condensor. Nobody knows. A cracked condensor would sound more legit because it sits up front and is capable of catching a rock or 2, just like the radiator. I've seen it happen when my cousin had his ac system finally fixed and it went back out again. He was frustrated but guess what, a bird swooped down in front of his car and hit the condensor, ac is out again.
