I have been looking to see what the problem is but there isnt to much info on this has anyone else have had this problem to what it might be i was thinking the back up switch but there is no layouts on the auto trans its a 99 2wd auto lx please help thank you

First check under-dash Fuse No. 19 (7.5A) for the back-up lights.

Fuse No. 19 allows power/voltage (+) through to the A/T reverse relay. When you shift into reverse, ground (-) is sent through the transmission range switch (located on the front of the transmission in engine compartment) to the relay.

The relay coil is then energized if both power (+) and ground (-) are present, which will then close the relay contacts to allow power (+) through to the back-up lights.

If Fuse No. 19 is okay, then you'll probably need a multimeter to do some tests.

I know this is really stupid but the reverse light is a specific bulb and when I first got mine I thought they were bad or a fuse was bad and I even bought a whole new assembly.

come to find out the previous owner has just put the wrong bulb in the socket and I didn't think they could be that stupid so I even replaced the wrong bulb with the same wrong bulb

This does happen and its happen to my cousin. He went and bought led bulbs but bought the wrong one and is still guessing why his reverse isn't coming on.

I have the same problem. fuse and bulb are good. but I could not locate where is the reverse relay location at.

Check your grounds near the rear.
