Default Honda CRV Mk2 Facelift - Lumpy Manual Gear Shift?

Hi all,

Bought a 2006 2.0 CRV around a month ago. Overall quite pleased with the vehicle. Only thing that is bothering me is the lumpyness of the manual gear change. Having upgraded from a car I must say its not what I am used to. It doesn't grind but it does feel notchy in gears 1 & 2 when shifting up or down (Goes in ok but occasionally feels like it is clicking past some resistance - almost grinding but not quite). Note that I habitually change gear quite swiftly so it could be me expecting it to sync to quicky.

I have searched online and noted that many say that the Mk3 gearbox is characteristically notchy. Could this possibly be the same box?

Also having driven some commercial vehicles it feels very much like some small lorry gearboxes that I have experienced (Possibly due to the torque required on those vehicles)?

Other than that its a good drive. Only other thing is the fuel consumption but I knew that before I got it and as its not for commuting its OK :-).

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Keith.

If you're going to 2nd down to 1st while the vehicle is still rolling you really shouldn't be doing that you don't need to ever get back into 1st after you've started moving and that is very notchy of a shift in any honda.

other than that the 1st gen definitely feels more "notchy" and more like a jeep than a car through shifts.

Thanks for the feedback. Its reassuring to know that the MK1 is notchy too. I have it booked in for a fluid change as I dont know how long ago it was last changed and its at nearly twice the service interval.

Where I live there are lots of hills. Changing from second to first is a must on approaching some of them. The flow of traffic is liable to get very upset if I stop at the bottom of the hill, select first, and then proceed :-). I think most gearboxes should be able to sync from second to first at around 10 MPH. I wouldnt try it at 20+ though or it would surely strain.

Regards,

Keith.
