First gen cr-v
Hey,
My gf might be getting a cr-v soon and I was wondering if there any red flags with these. Never dealt with B series engines before either, just h and f so is there anything to be concerned about with these engines? Awd solid? Any weak points?
Thanks

It's not that it's a B-series per say that's the problem, it's that it's a B20 and and they are prone to burning valves if they are not maintained properly. Regular valve lash adjustment is required.
The "AWD" isn't actually a true AWD. It is more of a "on-demand" type setup. It is called Real-Time 4WD (RT4WD) and only engages the rear differential when a slip condition is encountered. Yes, there is a delay in activation, but it does work in both forward and reverse.
The driveshaft u-joints are a weak point. They can also be plagued by water leaks in the interior. Catalytic converter clogs are common too, but this is usually a byproduct of lack of maintenance. Aside from your typical Honda automatic transmission issues, from a bone stock perspective, they are rather solid vehicles overall. Plenty of people make it to 300,000 miles plus.
