Re: CRV lift kit or bigger tires? off roadin
I am no expert by any means, but I just had a 1999 fwd CRV lifted with a 2" spacer kit from CMR and added the 1.5" hub centric wheel adapters with stock steel rims and 235/75/15 's…..I'm about 200 miles in and have had no issues with the cv joints. I asked the mechanic that did the install if he thought we should replace them just to start fresh and he recommended just replacing them if they go…..so far no issues. Of course with only fwd, i'm not doing any off-roading either...

Hello all,
So i purchased the OME lift springs for my 1997 Honda CR-V a couple years ago and they fit great. No problems at all. However, I recently purchased a 2006 Honda CR-V and was wondering if I could use the same OME lift springs on my 2nd gen CR-V. Simply swap the springs from my 97' to my 06' and vice versa. I dont see why they wouldnt fit but I figured I'd ask just to be sure. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

Hello everyone, I am new to this forum. I have a 1998 honda crv and I've been wanting to add some lift to it with some bigger tires. I was thinking of getting some Old Man Emus for some lift. Does anyone know what would be the biggest tire size I could go without it rubbing up against the fender liner? Also (possibly a stupid question) I was wondering if I were to add strut spacers could that weaken the suspension system? Thanks for any help!

Re: CRV lift kit or bigger tires? off roadin
I've researched the hell out of lift springs for CRVs lately. The two main brands are OME & Dobinson. I have a 2006 and OME only makes them for the rear for G2s. I contacted Dobinson about their front & rear springs as they're the only manufacturer who makes them for the front too for a G2.
Their US branch doesn't have any in stock, they're expecting a cargo ship delivery to arrive from Australia March 2016.
I ended up paying $194 for shipping from their Australian headquarters and am supposed to be getting them any day now (supposedly 4 business day delivery). So, for those of you with gen2/2.5 V's wondering about lifting front and rear with springs, pay $194 shipping now or wait until March. Price per pair is $162 which is the same for OME springs.
OME breakdown:
OME offers the following for CRVs: (spring part #) They seem to be easy to find in the states by simply googling: "old man emu" & whichever part number you need (e.g." 2797").
Get 1: 1" lift front (2797) & rear (2798)
Gen 2: 0.75" in rear only (2538)
Gen 3 (2007 on): 1" front (2535) & 1" rear (2536)
Dobinson's US website doesn't mention anything about Honda, but their Australian website does. Here's a link to their spring catalogue.
Dobinson CRV spring breakdown:
CRV 2012+ Raised heavy duty: Front (C23-192), rear (C23-193) (not sure what a raised heavy duty CRV is but I'm interested!)
CRV 2012+ : Front (C23-194), rear (C23-195)
CRV RD '97-'01: Front (C23-072), rear (C23-073) - (they also offer stock and lower spring sizes for this model.)
CRV '01-'07: Front (C23-104), rear (C23-105) - (also offer stock and lowered springs.)
CRV RE '07+: rear only (C23-125) (rear only???!!!)
Is it an odd coincidence that OME only offers rear lifts for 2nd Gen but front and rear for gen 1 & 3 and yet Dobinson offers front and rear for gen 1 & 2 and only rear for gen 3? Think one of them could have gotten something mixed up? I think its possible
We'll see in a week when I install them. They better F'n fit. For those of you with other generation V's, you're psyched & have plenty of options, especially OME's on our continent.

Does anyone know what would be the biggest tire size I could go without it rubbing up against the fender liner? Also (possibly a stupid question) I was wondering if I were to add strut spacers could that weaken the suspension system? Thanks for any help!
1) A size in width (e.g. 215 to 225 so its 10mm wider) which will require hub centric wheel spacers of at least 5mm to avoid rubbing in the front when turning hard.
2) A size or two in diameter. 1 size increase in diameter shouldn't make too much difference, but going up 2 sizes definitely requires a lift and some hammering. (e.g. OEM 65 can be increased to 70 without much issue, or up to 75 only if lifted and probably have to hammer some of the inner fender parts).
So it depends on your OEM tire size. I know my 2006 are : 215/65R16. After my lift I'll be able to go up to 225/75R16 (using OEM rims), but I'll probably save a bit of gas and go with 215/70R16.
2nd gen V's have 1/2" rear end sag which I am making up for by installing 3/8" rear spacers made from HDPE cutting boards that I'll cut to fit and will provide 1/2" additional lift to level it out perfectly.
Many folks go with strictly the strut spacer technique. That has the advantage of maintaining stock shocks & springs, so your vehicle will ride much like it did before only with a bit more clearance and thus, the ability to increase tire size. Its also easier to install.
I'm personally lifting by replacing my shocks/struts & springs and adding a wee spacer in the rear, so I'll have all new heavy duty suspension lifting 1.5" in the front and 2" in the rear.
My decision to lift with springs instead of spacers, was because it upgrades a part of the vehicle's suspension to make it better able to handle increased height and weight. Lifting with spacers simply pushes the existing suspension down onto a bumper pad or spacer, so all of the original suspension is maintained in addition to the spacer which I feel like could put more wear on the existing hardware. But those are my assumptions/reasons for going the way I did. Many folks have said great things about going purely the spacer route.

Re: CRV lift kit or bigger tires? off roadin
Thanks everyone for replying to my questions. I just now need to see which set of tires I wanna get and what size to get so that they won't rub. I probably will add some strut spacers on top of the new struts that I will buy. If anyone has any recommendations on tires and tire sizes I will gladly accept any recommendations!

Thank you for the info! Do you have any pictures I can see of your V? I was looking at General Grabber 225/70R15 and was wondering if this would rub without a lift kit. I'm just afraid of ordering a tire and then it being to big to fit. I wanna have the biggest tire I can get without making any modifications to the bumper/fender wall.

Re: CRV lift kit or bigger tires? off roadin
Hi guys! New to the group, I've been peeping here for a few years. I'm mid way threw my install of a homemade 2" n 2.25" coil spring spacer lift. One thing I would like people to know is it's not a simple bolt in procedure. It's not hard but, expect to swear a bit. The hardest part I had was getting the strut tube back into the fork at the bottom with the extra length. Unbolt everything! Except the frame mount of the a arms. Set the strut tub on the upper part of the fork and with a pry bar push the lower a arm down n with your foot push the tube n lower mount in at the same time. It will slip in(eventually...) I hope this helps a few folks out. I'll try n post pics. 97crv ex auto with 287000miles running 235/75/15 on 15x8 pro comp rims
