Hello, I have a 2001 Honda CRV. I put in an alarm system a few years back and really havent used the alarm for over a year (bc the doors wouldnt lock). So yesterday my gf was driving my car and she said her friends kid got ahold of the alarm key and pressed the alarm. The alarm came on as she was driving and her friend quickly grabbed it out of her kids hand and turned it off. She said she had parked the car and then got back in the car, which turned on perfectly fine, and drove back to the house. As she was pulling up, the car dies on her as if she ran out of gas. Obviously, having half a tank i knew it wasnt the gas. I just want to know if anyone has ever heard of this happening? I dont have alot of money to go to a mechanic. A friend of mine suggested it could be the ECM after he messed around a little with the fuses. He also said something about there was no spark. HELP?!?!?

unplug the aftermarket alarm. more than likely under the dash. probably looks like it doesnt belong there.

I disconnected the alarm and it still wont start. When I try to start the car it cranks but it just wont get there. When my car first died she tried turning it back on and it came on for a second or two and died again. She said it happened twice and then it stopped. I don't want to spend mo dy on a certain part then ends up not being the correct part. I appreciate all the advice. I don't really have any knowledge about cars so please bare with me.

I already wennt there. No help and the car wont start up so I cant drive it over there. I had a friend d who works on cars but has no proper education look at it and said the timing belt jumped. He figured it out by noticing the rotor wasn't spinning so is it the timing belt? Or is it not spinning because it has something to do with the alarm messing up? I had a viper brand alarm put in. Any ideas? Or take his diagnosis and take ghe chance and pay him to fix it? Is there anything else that would be obvious to know for sure the timing belt jumping is the only problem.

If the rotor isnt spinning, then the cam isnt spinning, which means timing belt...go ahead and take the valve cover off to confirm.


Does it spin over rather quickly?
