I actually didn't use any clear coat, it was a single-stage paint. The color comes out shiny and you just build up coats of that...I think I ended up with around 4-5 good coats on everything.

Mixing is just a matter of following manufacturers instructions. They all have spec sheets on their websites and usually mixing data on the can itself. You need either a marked measuring cup, or I use kitchen measuring spoons and put the proper ratio of chemicals in that way. 3 scoops base, 1 scoop hardener, 1 scoop reducer, etc etc (for example). It's not hard to mix, just be careful

I guess this is kinda turning into a build thread, so I figured I would update a little bit. Got the wheels blasted, sanded and primed today and the OEM Honda roof rack is on (no pics yet).

I made a little booth for blasting and ended up using 1/2 glass bead and 1/2 'Black Diamond', which is like jagged black sand. The glass was too soft and the BD was too course, so mixing them worked out really good

The primer is basic etching primer in a rattle can from O'Reilly and it actually does stick very well. I will just wet sand it and then shoot a few coats of the darker brown on the wheels hopefully tomorrow....

Thanks guys

The wheels are painted! I blasted the aluminum because it was cast and the textured surface would not have let me sand down to the metal (without removing a LOT of difficult material). So blast, sand, clean, prime, sand, clean, paint and now here they are. Looks almost white in a few pics, but they are definitely brown...like a coffee color same as the CRV.

Tires will be on ASAP and I'll have some good pics then

We also have some center caps I am not sure if I want to use....they are plastic and have a Mitsubishi logo on them. I would probably fill the logo in with plastic filler and just paint them like the wheels, but they do have a really shi++y metal clip design that BREEDS rust. The jury is still out, haha...............

And helllooo Michelin Hydroedge 225 60/16! These tires are much better for MPGs and wet weather, something that hinders these CRVs without ABS.

The wheels also ended up having a lower offset than stock, so the CRV is now sitting with a wider stance and wider tires

I like the color scheme. It reminds me of the vehicles they used in Jurassic Park 2. Maybe, if you get lucky, you might source a spare wheel for an RX-7 (FC chassis). They're extremely lightweight (aluminum), and would fit your CR-V nicely.

I'm not really sure how many CR-V's get done up out there, but i'm sure i've seen a couple before... however, this is by far the most beautiful and tastefully put together one IMO so far. Color scheme is just so on point, job came out nice, we can tell you did it right (i'm a painter too).... this is going to be absolutelly stunning once lowered.
Congrats!

Thanks Matt, appreciate it I've seen those lightweight spares, but they have spokes right? Might sound silly, but I wanted a spare that had minimal design so it that would kinda blend in better. Definitely the best choice for weight though....

Many thanks! I really appreciate the compliments You are tempting me to lower it now...but I think the next things will be tint, camber kit, and I just found out we have to replace the trailing arm bushings.

To lower or not?.......hmmmmm

Very nice build, The color combo looks good. The paint looks great, I would never guess diy in a garage. I have been looking for a crv and I am selling my EK Hatch to get one, I just bought a Rodeo today but your build drives me to keep looking for The crvs are priced pretty high here in PA.

Yeah, it has spokes.

BUT! The MKII MR-2 has a pretty simple design for a spare wheel, that will work on the CR-V.

Cool...is that a 16?

The ENTIRE rear suspension just got rebuilt/upgraded/repainted on this car and I will post up some pics on the next few days New bolts, bearings, TA bushings, rust removal, etc....

Finally some time to post an update! Important parts of the rear suspension were heavily rusted and the trailing arm bushings were badly damaged, so it was time for an intervention

The rust on this hub was pretty much what covered all the bolts, bearings, spindles, and brackets.
