Will taking off my hood increase performance for a short ram intake?
I have a short ram intake on my car and so it sucks in hot air from the engine bay. I know there is a trend to drive hoodless and I wanted to know if this with help performance since the air would be cooler. I know there will be more drag, but I'll ignore that for this question's sake.

i don;t know about performance but If you are worried about that you can go to homedept and get a 3" diameter dryer ducting and just put it through the hole where your old airbox was and duct air where ever you want

I've already got the short ram on my engine, just wondering if it could increase performance by taking the hood off. Might go to a meet that way.

an 18" long (hard to accomplish with an EF due to battery being in way) 3" tube with a good K&N filter that has a built in velocity stack will gain you more performance than a cai.
if it were me, Id make sure your lower airbox (the bafflebox behind the bumper) is gone and make a small guard (even cardboard would work) that blocks the heat from the bay and forces the intake to draw air from where the bafflebox was. Its really easy to do with how the battery sits in a EF.
Either way, nothing you do with an intake is going to yield enough hp to feel with a butt dyno and any performance you gain from removing the hood will be negated by drag. IMHO, the only cars that look decent at all without hoods are muscle cars.

the way the hood and grill is set up, it flows air up and around the motor to keep it cooler. you could screw up the air flow over the motor without the hood.

and that increase would be decreased by the worse drag, and your cooling system will not work well either.

I was thinking of removing the whole intake system and just putting a filter there the throttle body is...

Another stupid fad. Are those guys trying to sport the "Hoodless" look because theirs rusted away after they had the "Rusted hood" look?

This is the reason why I don't come into this forum that often.
OP, how old are you, anyways? Is a few HP more worth being an idiot and driving without a hood?
