and i am talking about how it is frustrating that all d16's are widely categorized as zc - jdm or not.
no, you still dont get it. theres no "specific ZC" motor. all the D series 1.6 engines from japan are stamped "ZC". the first one was the DOHC 1.6L non vtec. (if it was 1.6l dohc vtec, itd be B16...) if it was 1.5l D series, itd be stamped D15.

but then SOHC 1.6L engines in the 2nd gen JDM integras were also stamped "ZC". this does not make the first one any more "real" or "specific". asking specifically for the "real ZC" is absolutely MISREPRESENTING the engine code.

why were all 1.6L D series from japan stamped ZC? even tho they had nearly identical equivalents produced for american consumption... i have no idea. but when an engine is stamped ZC, thats all it means. 1.6L D series.

i did not know previously that all jdm d16 motors are ZC, thank you guys. I did know, that usdm d16 are not zc, and that is why I posted in the first place - people selling "usdm zc" parts and stuff. i am not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers(unless you're selling usdm zc parts), don't mind me.

I was just browsing dohc zc blocks earlier and i got so much crap - especially integra motors, and i was getting frustrated.

well now you know. i get frustrated too (clearly) when people think the only ZC is the DOHC 1.6L black top.

spread the word, so people dont get so confused. its unfortunately ambiguous and theres a historical misunderstanding.

As mentioned, there are many different types of ZC engines, and yes, the are jdm spec, and yes they are d series 1.6L

They did come out of civic's, crx's, and integra's

The two most common zc engine used in Ef were non vtec versions......

sohc zc (87-90) rated at 118hp with the only difference from the usdm D16A6 being a different camshaft, that's it!!

dohc zc (87-90) rated at 125-130hp depending. It was a little more unique and different than the usdm version of the usdm D16A1 found in 86-89 Integra's. The zc had higher compression, different block with drivers side engine mount, unique cylinder head and intake manifold with different mounting bolt locations and different valve cover.

There are older versions like the jdm spec brown top zc found in Integra's, and newer versions found in jdm EG, EK and DA and DC model integra's...some of which came from AWD models

how do they tell the motors apart if they're all stamped zc?

i have a dohc third gen zc, it only has "zc" stamped on it no other codes(there's the production number, of course), is that how all the other jdm d16 motors are stamped?

other than knowing what they look like, of course, i'm sure someone familiar with them can pick them out without looking at the stamp.

simple...look at the year stamped on the head so you know what generation it is/ Getting things like gaskets, cap, rotor, plugs and wires should be very simple

yeah but those were made in america and then shipped to japan. civic coupes are the total rarity in japan and reverse shipped. so complete oddball, hardly worth mentioning.

like i said earlier, you CANT. thats why it takes a visual check. its not hard to spot an extra cam, a vtec solenoid, a plugged up carburator port....

its stupidly ambiguous, but it just is.

Look, Honda never intended on having there jdm spec engines to be shipped in great numbers over to North America. In Japan, you bring your car to a local dealer or parts store, they look up the model, and boom, you get the parts you need.

Complaining about an old foreign Honda engine from15 years ago is silly and not worth stressing over...if you don't like it, buy a b series, lol

There's other cars with D16A. HR-V for one. But either way, you can't rule absolution even if 1 D16A factory motor exists. You should get over yourself.

I'm done, these motors are hardly anything to take this seriously.

The absolute statement I have been saying is ZC means 1.6L D-series. That's it.

The existence of some american built "import" into japanese market and even LHD with a D16A stamped engine is not contrary to the statement above.

Thanks for playing. Have a nice day.

anyways, its kinda funny how their trash is our treasure. kinda like how the cubans would just love to go through our junkyards to keep their old cars running. The canadians would make great money selling junkyard parts to the cubans!
