What is a ZC?!?!
Why do people keep calling the integra motor a ZC???? It is NOT!!!! The ZC is stamped ZC and came from the JDM civic and crx! It makes looking for parts and things so difficult because of all the other crap that comes up when you search for "ZC"!

Re: What is a ZC?!?!
The first gen teg engine is pretty much the same as my DOHC ZC. I used the top end gasket set and bottom end gasket set from an 88 teg when I rebuilt my DOHC ZC. I also used an ECU from an 88 teg.

Re: What is a ZC?!?!
No it is not. It was a rhetorical question - more of a rant of people who call everything a "zc".
The ZC motors came in 1986-1991 (JDM) Civic and CR-X. The integra motor is a d16a1 - similar, but not the same.
Basically, I am ranting about everybody who misrepresents their motors and stuff as "ZC" when in fact they are not ZC, but similar.
I'm am rebuilding my dohc and I'm sick of having to sift through all the crap.

Re: What is a ZC?!?!
Not that I need one, but when I look up a zc block on ebay, you get more hits that are not zc than those that are!
And i believe that even though the parts are can fit and are compatible, the actual specs are a little different - correct me if I'm wrong.
Oil pump has different flow rates, pistons are a big difference, other odds and ends. I guess it's just a technicality that has been eating away at me for the past couple years.

its single cam, its dual cam, its vtec, its carburated. its non vtec and non carburated!
YOU ARE MISREPRESENTING THE ZC!
ZC means 1.6L D series. and in its MANY different engine forms from 88 to 99.

Re: What is a ZC?!?!
"if it says "ZC" it's real name is ZC - all ZCs are JDM and 1.6L - SOHC non-VTEC ZC is 118hp and is basically the same as a USDM D16A6 Si/EX engine with different camshaft - could be any year from 88 to 95 - some SOHC ZCs were also equipped with dual carbs instead of fuel injection (105hp) - some SOHC ZCs were also VTEC and are 130hp, basically the same engine as the USDM D16Z6 - no USDM engines are ZCs - the USDM 86-89 Integra D16A1 DOHC engine looks similar to the JDM DOHC ZC, but is a completely different engine (it does share valve train components, distributor, Cylinder Position Sensor and throttle body on 88-89, but other than that they are not the same)"

Re: What is a ZC?!?!
zc does not mean 1.6L D series, it is not any of the usdm motors, and is only a specific subset of jdm d16's.
so as i was saying, its very frustrating when EVERY d16 is labeled as a ZC on classifieds and auction sites.
just because all ZCs are d series and 1.6l doesn't mean that all d series 1.6l motors are ZCs.
One might argue that "ZC means 1.6L D series. and in its MANY different engine forms from 88 to 99." is a misrepresentation.

Re: What is a ZC?!?!
anyhows, this is not productive.
Anyone have experience with JIS rebuild kits? Bearings, seals, gaskets, stuff like that.
Also, what is the best head gasket to use on a DOHC ZC(the real one)? What year is the metal, thinner one?

Re: What is a ZC?!?!
no, ZC DOES mean 1.6L D series.
every 1.6L D series from japan is a ZC.
thats all it suggests. anything else requires an extra visual.
saying anything else exclusively would be a misrepresentation. get over it.
good luck shopping.

Re: What is a ZC?!?!
i understand what you're saying - that all jdm d16 motors are zc motors as a category.
2 points -
i am talking about the specific ZC motor, not the category.
and i am talking about how it is frustrating that all d16's are widely categorized as zc - jdm or not.
