What engine could fit a 1987 honda civic crx 1.3L?
I have a 1987 honda civic CRX 1.3L that overheated at one point and am now looking to replace the motor. I wanted to rebuild it but I learned that the pistons are no longer made for this model. I got an estimate on how much it would cost to rebuild the motor and it was 2000 bucks. I would like to find an engine that would fit the transmission if possible. It would also be nice if there is an engine out there that can still be remanuaftured for a resonable price. If anyone has any ideas on how to approach this problem please let me know. Thanks.

anything will fit with enough money and fab skillz........
But if you only want to keep it on the road, call an engine importer and just get the same thing.

dont screw this guy over with wrong info the d16 is a single cam motor (all d-series motors are) DOHC are b-series and k-series for civic swaps (easy ones atleast) there is also f-series and h-series out of preludes and accords also the s2k and upcoming s3k

the only engines that will bolt up to your transmission are from the 84-87 CRX/Civic - the only other engines that will bolt right into your chassis are the 86-89 USDM Integra D16A1 or the 84-87 JDM DOHC ZC, usually called a "browntop ZC" - the D16A1 and JDM DOHC ZC are fuel injected engines and your engine is carbed - to swap a fuel injected engine into your car will require the swapping of the entire fuel system (tank, pump, lines, etc.) for the fuel system from the 1g CRX Si model - you would also need to swap out most of the wiring in the car for the Si wiring - in addition to swapping the fuel system and wiring, the D16A1 swap would require using the D16A1 engine along with the 86-89 Integra transmission, intermediate shaft, axles, knuckles/hubs and shift linkage - you could also swap a B-series engine/transmission into it using a mount kit like Hasport, custom axles, custom shift linkage and the 86-89 Integra knuckles/hubs - unless you are willing to spend a lot of money on it, your best bet is to try to find another 1.3L engine like the one in your car or the 1.5L carbed engine from 84-87 DX
