VTEC rod bearings on my d16a6
Ive been told that rod bearings off a SOHC VTEC would perform better on my d16a6 because of its higher RPM application.....Or is there actually no difference between the sohc non-vtec and vtec rod bearings? I am asking this cause i am currently rebuilding my d16a6 and will be heading over to Honda to buy me new bearing within a week. Input would be great guys thanks.

Re: VTEC rod bearings on my d16a6 (RedRacerCivic)
the rod bearings are the same between the a6 and z6. Buy them from majestic honda, they are 15 dollars per rod compared to the dealers 20 something a rod.

They are just a little over $1 per bearing half from h-parts.com
Here are the part numbers for you, D16Y8 (96-00 Civic Ex) rod bearings:

Every time I've placed an order, I get all of the major items, but if I order bolts or washers, they always short me and either don't ship the part or just ship the single part instead of say the 3 I ordered.
I probably won't be buying from them again

The two times that i have ordered from them I have recieved everything. I hope this stays true since I have a $500 order of parts that I hope will be shipped from them tomorrow. If they forget one of my bearing sets I will be really pissed.

Yeah, but how about little things like nuts, bolts, washers, and studs?
They've screwed up my order on those things 100% of the time.
As I said before, things that are big (water pump, distributor cap, etc..) they don't miss, but its just the little things..

Re: VTEC rod bearings on my d16a6 (vtecrx)
I hate to break off of the topic of this post but, I'm a bit confused with bearing codes. Right now im in the middle of replacing the main bearings in my d16a6 CRX Si. The car has aftermarket rods in it. Basically, it started knocking so I pulled everything apart only to find that the engine builder did not replace the main bearings when they built the engine. The crank is scratched up but I have since gotten a new one. So here I am with a crank that didn't come from this particular bottom end, and also with great rod bearings. I'm going to replace all the bearings and the oil pump and seals while I have it out but my main dilemma is which bearings should I get. I realize that the crank has codes on it that resemble the size bearing I need but according to helms, the code on the crank combine with the code stamped on the block to give you the result of which bearing color to use. With me mixing parts, and not using OEM rods I have no clue which ROD bearings or MAIN bearings I should use. Anyone have any ideas?

Re: VTEC rod bearings on my d16a6 (Steve Berman)
as to your main bearings do just like you would if you hadnt replaced the crank. Get the number off the crankshaft and get the letter off the block and you have your main bearings. as to your rods I am not sure to what color you would use but if it was me i would get the middle of the raod and plasgigauge it. From there you can tell if you need to go up or down. Or you can get acl bearings which just come in standard or oversize. Or just call whoever made the rods and ask them what they reccomend. Post it back if you find out cause I will be in the market for some rods in the next couple of months.
