How about 'water in the trunk'. People think it's the hatch seal, or the strut arm. It's not. It's the body seam sealer underneath the roof runners/black lines. You need to clean them out, and then use Permatex and reseal it. Common, and for some reason not a well known fix!

Surprised the rack end bushing wasn't on this list lol. Hundreds of thousands of miles on a piece of plastic. Fairly common I'd say. Replaced my oem one at 190k on my hatch.

that would be in the top 10 common MECHANICAL tips and tricks, but i havent bothered to go there yet....
and btw, i've been the most vocal about the rack end bushing... im glad ppl are seeing it as important and common as i have been saying.

Makes sense lol. And yeah, I follow a lot of your technical posts. The first time I saw you mention the bushing I immediately figured out exactly what that CLUNK was from the passenger side.

I tried to integrate all links in this thread into the FAQs sticky. If I missed anything, please let me know.

I wouldn't normally promote anyone but I have to say that this guy's product fixed my cracked climate control and it looks like it is factory. On ebay his username is "performancelectronics" and he's selling the face plate for only $10.74. He's currently sold 260 of them during this listing (9/19/2013). Very nice man, he makes them himself and they come with a "stickem" backing. When I ordered mine, USPS must have put it in the wrong mailbox (condo "cluster" mailboxes). They call them cluster for a reason. I contacted him and he shipped me a replacement right out for free, no questions asked. I hope this helps someone.
