Timing is everything.
Okay, so I know how to use a timing light and own one, although it's a basic one, no advance **** or anything, just the trigger...
I also know how to adjust the timing to stock specifications. I was wondering if there were ways to adjust it so that I can get a little more power out of the engine.
I know on my RX-7, there is both vacuum advance and mechanical (Centrifugal) advance... To set the timing to optimal on that car, you have to rev the engine to 4000 RPM, max mechanical advance and disconnect/plug the vacuum advance lines, then set the timing. I was wondering if there was a similar proceedure here, or is stock good enough.
It's a Hitachi distributor on a carbed D15 engine.
BTW, I just replaced the ignitor, and damn, that bitch is expensive. It cost me $140... And I work at a shop that gets discounts from the parts wholesalers. It woulda cost me close to $200 if I just got it on my own...

Re: Timing is everything. (TorteX)
I don't suppose I could get in on it eh?
So nobody has any extra steps in the proceedure or better than stock settings?
I did it the way I normally do, unplugged the vacuum advance actuators and plugged the hoses, idling at normal temperature...
My timing was at TDC.. no advance no retard... Holy crap does normal timing make a difference... I can shift a 3 grand in normal traffic now! And the engine runs a bit cooler...

Re: Timing is everything. (86REX)
Then perhaps it was the carb, which I used a full can of carb cleaner on after I did the timing... I dunno when it was last rebuilt.
