Hey guys like the title says, I stripped out the hole in the block. I'm not getting a new block I just had the entire motor rebuilt. Is there a certain Helicoil kit or inserts you guys would recommend? I believe the bolt size is 10x32.5 but I'm not for certain. I've already googled and found people with the same issues but no help. Any help is much appreciated as always. Thanks.

How far down is it stripped? I'm not sure what that bolt does actually. If it is a thin passage, I'd suggest cleaning it up, weld in some more metal, drill and tap a proper hole back into it. You could also redrill the hole slightly larger (find the next bolt size up) and then tap in appropriate threads. You'd have a goofy bolt, but it should function the same.

I've seen mixed reviews on helicoils and inserts. 4drEF has some experience with them (at least from what I've read on this forum) but I can't recommend any.

It's stripped all the way. I was thinking about redrilling to a bigger hole, I just don't know what size helicoil and bolt I need.

I don't see why you would need a helicoil if you are redrilling it. At that point you can just tap it for a new bolt.

EDIT: Why not just get a new mount?

I just seen a youtube video on how to use a helicoil, seems easier then tapping it for a new bolt. What would you suggest helicoil or tapping? Thanks again for the quick response.

Helicoil basically requires you to drill out the old thread and create a larger thread which is special size for Helicoil to be screwed in to - the tap comes in the kit.
Helicoil should work just fine for what you are doing. If it were a headstud or something that gets a lot of pulling force, I would suggest paying more (a lot more... About three times as much) for a Timesert.
READ and FOLLOW the directions!



Tapping for a larger bolt will probably be the cheapest route especially if you can borrow a tap set from somebody. This should work just fine for your mount.

Whatever you do, when you are tapping, make sure to use WD-40 often on the tap to keep it lubricated. Also' after you get the tap started, be sure to make a couple full turns and then back it out a little. This will break the chip of metal and you will likely feel it and maybe hear it too. If you just go all out and don't reverse, then the chip can wander around and can mess up the threads you just created.

Thank you so much for your reply 4drEF, I will follow the instructions clearly Unfortunatly I don't know anyone with a tap set, but I found a Helicoil set at Cost Less Auto for 24.99. Thanks again for your kind instructions, very much appreciated.

Go to autozone or advance or something and see if they have a tap set to rent. I'm lucky enough to know a guy with a set personally. They aren't cheap, but you may be able to rent one.

Success guys, I bought me a tap/helicoil kit for 34.00, first time ever doing a job like this, and it worked out perfectly. I was able to torque both bolts to 38ft lbs. I am so excited to have my car almost ready, it's soo close. Just gotta install the fresh motor and pray everything works out ok. Thanks again guys for all your help. Peace.
