I am telling you that buying the Socket set made by Craftsman is your best bet. They have angled points on them that dig themselves into the nut. You usually have to beat them on too but once it's on it's designed to hold it isn't going to slip.

They do make sockets for stripped bolts. It bites tighter into the bolt the more you turn it until it comes out. Works just like a regular socket and saves you so many headaches. I dont worry about stripped bolts anymore since I got them. Seriously, it's the best way to get it out. There is a tool for everything out there.

Here's the set. It's called a bolt/damaged nut out set. Bought mine at sears for $30 bucks

here's why these arent gonna work in this situation.

first, the tip of the stud is well above the face of the nut. because the threads are sticking out, youre not going to be able to use these since the stud is going to prevent putting a ratched nub on the special socket.

second, theres not enough room between the stud and the outer wall of the middle of the top hat. youre not going to even get the socket centered on the stripped nut.

these are for stripped bolt heads, not nuts anyway. and ive never had success using these things anyway, in the way theyre intended to be used. they just end up cutting the edges off the head bolt anyway.

i'd say have someone with a welder weld a new bolt on top of the old one and then use that bolt to crank it off.

actually the one from sears you don't stick a ratchet into the end or the stripped nut remover, you use a wrench/socket around it. also they do have a hole up through the middle to that a long stud/bolt can stick up throught the middle.

if that do work i suggest a tourch!!!

ah yes, youre right. but it still wouldnt work, because its too big to fit between the middle of the top hat.

i think the nut breaker (ouch!) is a good bet too. you might have to grind down some of the thickness in order for it to fit.

You can use the nut extractors from sears. I have these at my house. All you will need is a deep socket to fit over the extractor. That easy. If you don't know what I'm talking about, I'll post a pic up later.

Those craftsmen eazy out socket things were by far the best investment me and my buddy made as far as tools. They worked instintally after stripping the **** out of a bolt with vise grips and what not. Even if they wont fit for this particular bolt I suggest picking up a set. God knows my ef needed their help more than a couple of times.

Amen. These should be a standard in anyone's tool box. If everyone had a set of these, there would be no more "stripped bolt/nut" threads.

Your problem is, you used the either the
wrong tool/or a low quality tool to start with..

A good six-point socket will probably still break it loose..
At the worst, use some P-B Blaster penetrating oil and a little heat..

If not,try a six inch pipe wrench as shown..
That will bust it loose even if the nut is round..

I have had great luck with the Craftsman bolt extractors, I can't see why one wouldn't work here. Or vice-grips, between the two I can loosen anything
