Strange Gas Mileage?
So I have been driving this 1990 Civic CX (Canadian STD)
Put in a full tank... And I am still driving on that same tank 650 kms later... Don't know why I am getting such good mileage!

Re: Strange Gas Mileage?
nope...
give it about 12 hours and your gas guage will plumit down.
when i put gas in my car and i drive around all day it will barely go down, but in the morning when i start it back up my guage will drop down a few pinches.
it does this alot when i have a full tank of gas.
another trick to find out your gas level is to FLOOR IT! i hold it till my vtec comes on then my guage will drop to its correct level.

Re: Strange Gas Mileage?
you've gotta remember that the cars are 20 years old too. the sending units aren't the most up to date technology. my level will go up and down depending on which steep hill i'm driving on.

Re: Strange Gas Mileage?
Well, the tank finished off at 715 kms. and that was when i decided to put more gas in it. lol.
the civic truly gets legendary gas mileage.
can we make a gas mileage thread? it is tech related, aint it?
so, $45 CAD (full) = 715 kms (mostly highway)
post yours.

Re: Strange Gas Mileage?
The shape of the gas tank is not a rectangle. There are humps above where the top of the the level arm cannot go into, so for your first 100 miles or so, your gas guage usually doesn't move, then drops pretty rapidly after that.

Re: Strange Gas Mileage?
There are a buttload of gas mileage threads already. What's the point?
Besides, your measurement criteria is flawed. Gas mileage is calculated in miles per gallon, or in your case kilometers per liter. Not how much $$ per tank, etc.

Re: Strange Gas Mileage?
ok.... $45 at $.85 per litre.
so... around 50 L
715km/50L = 14.3km/L
convert that to mpg. multiply by around 3? so around 40-43 mpg?

Re: Strange Gas Mileage?
Taking an average of several fillups is really key. For one, errors in gas station pumps can throw things off. A 5% error (meaning you are getting as much as 5% more or 5% less than what is shown on the pump dial) is not unusual, though I believe in most states that would be caught by inspectors and corrected pretty quick.
