Re: Stock CD player (99 civic Si) in 89 civic Si
ok...on the 99:
pin 10 "constant" goes to the 89 "constant 12v"
pin 2 "ACC main supply goes to the 89 "switched ignition" power signal
I would not bother with pin 19 and pin 9. A 1989 model car only expects 1 signal dealing with headlights/dimming. The 1 signal comes from the dimmer switch ONLY when the headlights/parking lights are ON. Even on regular CD players, I don't bother hooking up the "dash illumination" wire. It just dims the CD player lights with the car's dashlight dimmer switch (which in older cars, did not require a "lights on" signal). I am not sure exactly how pin 9 is supposed to be wired (according to honda, anyway).
In your case, I am willing to bet that even if you hook up the illumination wire, it may not change brightness by your dimmer switch UNLESS you wire up pin 9 to a wire that gets a signal when the headlights/parking lights are turned on....which, again, is usually the WHOLE POINT of a simple 1wire dimmer switched illumination wire...it wouldn't come on UNLESS you turned on the parking/headlights...
If my ASSSUMPTIONS are right so far, the real question is: Should pin9 receive a POSITIVE or NEGATIVE signal (to let the '99 CD player know that the lights are on). :0
If you have the speaker wires working, and I gave you the correct power wiring (doublecheck with testlight, please)....you should have a working CD player.. Call it a WIN and stop while you are ahead :D

Re: Stock CD player (99 civic Si) in 89 civic Si
Thanks. But I hope everyone realizes that I am NOT there to confirm (through wire-testing) those wires. He did the research, I am just matching up the wire names he listed and giving a description.
Always research, check, and doublecheck before doing an install. I simply "know the lingo" bc I have been putting in my own stereos/amps/etc since before '99..lol However, to this day, I have never owner anything newer than a '96. (I have never believed in paying $20,000+ for a stock vehicle when I can build one for $500-3,000 depending on my goal. :D
Oh, yeah...just get a wire harness adapter from walmart so your factory wires will be color coded and you won't have to cut the OEM harness to install a different stereo.

Metra sells a female pigtail to plug into the back of the civic radio. Buy the male plug for your stock 89 civic radio plug and splice all the corresponding wires together.
Works great unless your civic plug has been hacked, then you have more work.

you sure the si radio is good? go to best buy and buy the female pigtail for your chasis and wire it to the male plug to your radio so it would be a jumper harness kinda like ecu jumper harness,

If that is right, check the 1989 constant wire for 12v with the key on and key off....please do this with the 1999 CD player pin10 DISCONNECTED. Since your factory 1989 radio works, I would expect that wire to have 12v at all times. If not, maybe your factory 1989 radio can work with just the voltage supplied by the "switched wire"??

Re: Stock CD player (99 civic Si) in 89 civic Si
If you want to test the 1999 CD player to see if it works, wire the CONSTANT 12v and the SWITCHED 12v wires to a working 12v wire. This will give the CONSTANT wire the power to run the CD player, but it will also tell the SWITCHED wire that the CD player is allowed to power on (because it thinks the key is on).
Anyway, please answer my last questions to check for proper voltages on the factory wiring during proper conditions....then let me know if the CD Player powers on when you give 12v to both wires (constant and switched).

Re: Stock CD player (99 civic Si) in 89 civic Si
you had 12v when you connected pin2 to the 1989 switched.......is that with the key on or off. By definition, you should only have 12v on the 1989 switched wire when the key switch is on.
Ok I think I got this part right . I got 12V when the key is on

So it is likely that your old radio works but DOES NOT remember stations...try that out. Put it on a specific station, turn the key off for 1 minute, and then turn the radio back on......is it still on the same station?
You said you had 12v on the switched wire. You can hook up both CD player wires to this SWITCHED power source. If the CD player works, it will not be able to store the settings while it is wired this way.

Re: Stock CD player (99 civic Si) in 89 civic Si
I've been putting in my own radios for 16 years now, but I have never really studied the INSIDE of a radio.
However, because of technology, what is FACT on 1 day, will be obsolete next week.
I always firmly "believed" that the constant wire was the true POWER wire, so I always put in bigger CONSTANT wires to allow more power. However, I admit I am no expert. If I was in a hurry, I would wire both wires to the SWITCHED power (even though it wouldn't store the settings) or both wires to the CONSTANT wire (even though I would have to manually turn off the radio EVERYTIME I turned off the car).
However, I have never really attempted to install a radio using only 1 of the radio's power wires (that I remember anyway). I am just trying to make sure you understand that I am not an expert on the INSIDE of a radio... I just have the experience with the wiring install.
Hook up both power wires to your switched 12v and the CD player should turn on (but won't remember settings). If the CD player works, leave it as-is, or figure out why the 1989 CONSTANT wire has no voltage...fix it....then wire the CD player correctly.

I'm not too worried about the 99 radio but since that I only got .68V out of the constant 12V this question me alot . And if I don't fix this I don't think I will be able to hook up the after market deck either .

So just run 1 new wire if you can't fix your 1989 "constant" wire.
