Default solid cel, but runs

ok my car has stumped me. I have a 89 ef sedan with a jdm b16a. when i got the car it ran fine till it spun a rod, so i replaced it with another jdm b16a, retained all the same senors. when i put the new engine in the car, i can turn the key forward, fuel pump primes, and cel stays on, ecu blinks once. i replaced the o2 just in case (only 17 bucks). took the battery off to re-set ecu. reconnected same thing. You can start the car and get one blink, then three blinks, I took a map sensor off a working car and same thing. I do have a chipped pm6 ecu, so i decided to borrow a friends pr4 ecu to see if it was bad. Plugged the pr4 in and same thing, cel on even with engine not running. same 2 codes with pr4 ecu when running. I even took my grounds off the thermo housing, sanded them down, reconnect. same. moved battery ground cable to trans housing, then bottom battery tray bolt, then trans mount bolt. same thing.

note, engine spun bearing due to previous owner installing incorrect size bearing.

Any idea's guys. I dont understand, this car ran before just fine (before it started knocking). Now this.

when it is running, it is idling rough. has throttle response, but is choppy. i have also swaped out the tps and intake temp senor (white sensor with 2 phillips screws). same thing no change.

It sounds like you might have only 1 code because the single blink could just be the "power on" blink. Does the one-blink repeat while checking the codes? (1blink...pause...3blink...pause...1blink...pause. ..3blink...etc).

If you have even only 1 code in the ECU, the CEL is going to stay on when you crank it. That is normal until you fix the problem causing the CEL

If you have a MAP code, it is not necessarily the MAP sensor causing the problem. Verify you routed the wiring and vacuum lines correctly with no air leaks. A code doesn't always mean that the sensor/part is bad...sometimes it means that the sensor is reporting unacceptable readings.

yes, while not running. 1blink...pause... 1blink, and repeats, cel on. while running 1blink...pause...3blink, and keeps repeating.

as for vac lines, it only had 2 when i got it (ran fine when i go it). one ran from the port on the back of the intake to the fps, then the off-center port on the throttle body to the map. i even looked at my uncles da teg to verify. i even swapped the plugs from tps to map, thinking it might have been backwards, but i had it correct.

next time im at the garage, ill take some detailed pics

Do you have vtec working with a PM6 ecu? Pretty sure you need a PR3 or obd1 conversion with a chipped or other vtec ecu.

Id recommend getting a FSM and start fixing everything that you know needs to be fixed...starting with the total walkthrough for troubleshooting each code(s).

yes it is chipped pm6 with a b16 basemap made for 1 o2. This car ran fine before i pulled the motor out. I have messed something up in the process of re-installing the new engine.
