RUSTY CRX PROJECT
so I got this crx super cheap, believe it or not its had about 7500$ worth of work in it since 2002 from the previous owner, nothing with the body. I already put a new front clip on but what should I do? Sheet metal the doors? Buy rear quarter panels? Its amazing what a few years worth of salt can do to these cars.http://www.flickr.com/photos/9197768...in/photostream

strip off the 'replacable' exterior sheetmetal and see how bad it is under it (inside rockers, floor, door jambs, inside the wheelwells, susp pickup points, etc.). you may find that the work involved to fab up these parts exceeds your desire to own this car. the replacable panels (like quarters and doors) can be bought, the other bits you gotta fab up and weld in.
IMHO, set this car aside and start looking for a clean shell

Re: RUSTY CRX PROJECT
pics tell it all.
That one is a goner, too much cancer, in all areas.
pull the seats out, then pull up the carpet. Post a pic.
Get it up on 4 jackstands, take the rocker cover plastics off, and take a pic under.
GONE.
I bet the back bumper is not secured to anything, and it will fall right off. car is not safe.
Look in the door jambs on the cowl.

The rust is quite interesting... especially on the doors. Almost as if someone has left open spots of metal and then just left it that way for ages. If you're lucky the floor and etc. is saveable. ( everything is saveable according to me though haha ).
But as said already pull out the carpet in the interior, remove the sideskirt molding and post some more pics.
But i can guarantee that you have ALOOT of welding and fabbing hours infront of you, if you really decide to save it!

Re: RUSTY CRX PROJECT
Well the holes are from where the piece of plastic on each side were from, all the floors and stuff are in good shape. The suspension and engine mounting areas are fine also. Its really funny the way this one rusted out. It goes down the road just fine and has had a lot of suspension work and stock engine work done to it. I think I am going to buy replacement rear quarters, use a gallonof truck bed liner on the underside, sheet metal the doors and call it good. The interior looks brand new in it lol. I have been taking corners hard and have gotten the car up to 125 MPH and it has no shakes or odd sounds.

2. I don't.
3. Take the front clip off, and whatever other parts are salvageable, find a better shell, this is a parts car.

Sometimes rust will be just skin deep. If the underneath is really solid, you can patch up the body. But make sure it is, there could be huge problems under the plastics. If it's been exposed to much salt, it's probably not worth saving long term.

Re: RUSTY CRX PROJECT
i would just get whole new doors from a salvage yard... new bumper and mounts.. check your under side and pull the car apart(all plastics off and check for rust.) check everywhere.. if you see rust grab a hammer and a punch and hit around the rust to see how far it is under the paint that you cant see. i had a crx with a dollar size rust size only to hit it with a punch and found out that the whole passenger floor was about to fall out.
i would hate to see another crx in a junk yard... there not disposable, there becoming harder to find.. at least in my area... this car i can tell you will require alot of work.. but if you have the heart you can do it... Just dont get in over head, take it a little at a time...
and personally if the car is covered in rust and you have no idea about the under carriage i wouldn't test out the rigidity of the shell by going 125.. which is fast for a single jingle... guessing its still stock... if they have dropped 7500$ they probably didn't have a motor swap... they probably got hassled by their local mechanic. for fixing every other issue... noone would swap a decant motor into that shell...
But good luck and keep us updated!!!
