rumbling/shaking while making lefthand turns...stumped
abot a month ago i broke an axel on the highway. i managed to slow my car down to around 30 mph before it broke (i was traveling at 70 or so mph). i obviously needed a new axel so i went out and bought it. i also decided to replace my sway bar bushings at the same time.
i installed the bushings and new axel and went out for a test drive. i noticed a rumbling/vibration as i accelerated and it worsened whenever i made lefthand turns. the feeling seemed to be coming for the right side.
for a while i needed new upper control arms, lower ball joints and tie rods. so, i decided now would be as good of time as any so i replaced all of them on BOTH sides. thinking my problem was solved for sure, i went out for another test drive only to find that the problem was,in no way, shape, or form, solved.
i then chose to take it in for an alignment. i got a 4-wheel alignment and camber adjustment (which really doesnt mean **** b/c i have a lowered car). i drive it, nothing's changed.
a week or so goes by and i cant figure out what the problem is. a search led me to the conclusion that i may have a bad wheel bearing. so i went out and purchased a front wheel bearing for the right side (which is the side i broke the axel on AND the side the rumbling seemed to be coming from). i replaced it, installed it, and drove it. no change.
im frustrated and stumped. any suggestions are greatly appreciated. i dont wanna take it to a mechanic and pay outrageous labor rates.
TIA.

was the axle that you installed an aftermarket OEM assembly or a Honda reman assembly? If it's an aftermarket parts house unit (ie. Pep Boys, Orielly's, Napa, etc.), it may have a bad inner cv joint.
This seems to be getting more and more common with nonOEM manufactured axles.
Try swapping with a known good axle and see if noise and vibration is alleviated.
Good Luck!

where and how did the axel brake ? When the axel broke did you remove it from the vehicle and put the vehicles weight back on the spindle

actually a friend of mine kept getting sh*tty axles from auto zone or some place like that. like 3-4 in a row. finally he went and got one from acura and problem solved. now his car wasn't vibrating like you described but just kept making the clicking noise when your cv joint is bad. so just because you bought two doesn't mean that they both weren't bad.

i had a similar problem when i used a eg axle on the passenger side. me being too lazy to replace the boot on the ef axle. when i finally took it out i noticed the eg axle is about a inch longer. make sure the axle you bought is for an EF

Did your new axle come with a harmonic balancer? Did the old one have one? kinda looks like a random rubber disc thats attached to the axle, this may be your problem

I think I have the same problem as you. It might be your cv boots or your drive shaft is bent. Go to Firestone and pay them 20 bucks to do an inspection, you'd be surprised at how fucked up your car is. Like I was mine. I went in for a $200 repair and will probably have to spend $700. ******* cars. Love em though.

the axel broke out of the cv boot on the tranny side. i thought it just pulled itself out of the boot so i pushed it back in and seemed to be ok. lower the car down and then it pretty much exploded.

see thats the thing i dont think i really damaged anything (driveshaft) seriously b/c i wasnt traveling all that fast when the axel broke.
is there anything else that could possibly be the problem or anything i could look at to determine my problem?
thanks for the responses.

Re: (5litereater)
i just got in from more work. i jacked the front of the car up and put it in first (while the car was on) and slowly let out the clutch. i founf that the LEFT wheel was wobbling, like it was bent. so i changed over my wheel from my passenger side to see if it was just the wheel and it wasnt. im thinking now tha i may have destroyed my left drive axel as well? either way im going to take it out and replace it b/c i have a lifetime warranty. hopefully my problem will be fixed?

Re: (5litereater)
i had a post on here a few days ago that a couple posted too. I have the same exact problem as you are having after replacing my driver side axle. My car doesn't make the noise going down the road unless i hit a dip and go around a right hand curve. I've come to the conclusion that it has to be the axle. I've replaced the axle 3 times and it still does it. I got my axle from advanced auto, my first mistake, but it was the only place open. I guess i'm just gonna go to honda and get a new axle. i have a 90 si with the b16, and using 90-93 axles. I hope this helps, the problem is about to annoy me to death.

Re: (hatchback_al)
I had this exact problem...turned out they gave me EK D series axels and they were too long. The CV joints on passenger side were getting loaded when making left turns.
This was because the passenger side shafts are so short that when I made a left hand turn and right side knuckle/tire was raised into wheel well it would compress the axel to the point where CV was grinding.
Try again w/the axels at autozone or whatever...i got new ones and found this out by comparing.

same thing happened to me one time, but they gave me eg axles, it destroyed my diff, the only way i could fix my problem was by changing the transmission with new ef axles, and now it drives perfect........

That's not a bad idea at all. The man has lots of good information. While you're talking to him, buy an axle to replace your bad side and install it. I can bet the problem will go away IF it was axles. I find when it comes to axles, the more you pay the better you get, but that's supposedly only in my experience as I am the only one that will pay more for performance parts instead of buying cheap parts and praying they work. I'm a little more serious about my cars parts. Not a cheap thrill for me.
