Roof Racks question
Looking into getting a roof rack for my EF.
It seems to be hard to find the right foot pack for such an old car, yet ive been told i can use any foot pack that mounts in that little rain gutter thing we have. Mean EG, CRX, Integra, ect, foot packs would work. Does any have any expirience with this? Thanks guys

Re: Roof Racks question
what car do you have? civic, crx, or hatch?
yakima racks
http://yakima.com/Consumer/Step1.aspx
you can buy everything used and then buy the "clips" new or used if you can find them
hatchback uses the Q9 clips
you can buy any setup off craigslist.
just needs Q towers and crossbars, 48" is recommended for our cars.
if you have a crx then you will need the "stretch kit"
it's all expensive if you buy it new, but you can find someones used setup for $100 usually on craigslist. then you just need the clips and those are about $50 for all 4
if you have a crx you need the stretch kit and that is kinda pricey, but if you can find it used then you are good

Re: Roof Racks question
im not familiar with yakima, but i have a thule rack. i got the whole assembly used for an accord, and it needed just the crx specific "fit kit", which comprised of some pads to match the rain gutter and clamps. the accord ones would not have worked.
the bars and whatnot are universal, just make sure its long enough to span across completely and not too long youll hit your head every time you get in and out of the car.

Re: Roof Racks question
I just put a Thule rack on my 90 Civic dx.. I bought the 'towers' and bars used for $40 off Craigslist. They are the 400 towers (the ones before the 400xt's) They are about 10 yrs old. I had to order Fit Kit 077 (which fits 88-91 Civics/CRXs). The bars were 58s but I cut them down to 50s but think 48s would look better.
You can find the fit kit on Ebay for like ~$30 shipped. They retail for like $70.
Dont forget to get locks!!

Re: Roof Racks question
all these racks both yakima and thule are universal for the most part.
depending on the model the feet will go on, theres 3 types:
1. the regular feet that rests on your roof and mounts on your door jams.
2. the 'gutter' feet that also rests on the roof but mounts on the 'gutter'.
3. the feet that mounts to your stock oem roof rack [common on mini vans and trucks]
you dont need a specific 'foot pack' for your car. like i said for the most part its universal. there is a specific way of mounting the regular feet to mount on any car, just gotta find the right angle of the door jam mount. and NO its not ghetto rigging it, theres no custom work/mods that needs to be done, all you need is the right size allen wrench a flat head screwdriver and some weak sauce muscles.
heres an example, my 89 crx with a full yakima rack off a camry, and yes its rock solid on there:
pm me if you need pics of how mines are mounted, ill take some.

can you send me some pics of how you've got your mounted? I've got a 2001 civic ex 4dr with a yakima round bar system I'm trying to figure out if I'm mounting incorrect or being silly and overthinking. Thanks
