Default Rings Seating and Burning Oil

Alright..so..i have had so many problems with this dohc zc but its finally running for the most part..

it is smoking a bunch. White/grey smoke when i give it some gas. It doesn't seem to have any smoke as the rpms drop. The guy i bought the engine from told me new rings, rods, and bearings.

So my assumption would be that rings need to seat and it will burn oil and smoke until they seat, but im not sure on that..can anyone confirm?

I have about 225 Miles on the engine so far. Ive been making sure to keep the oil in between the dots and making sure that its not over heating or anything. How long until this smoke stops? Someone told me 1K miles for the rings to seat but IDK about that.

Figure i might as well post a picture to ***** out my car and show the kinda smoke im dealing with

Go easy on the gaytazzas...they are getting replaced after the car is running good.

He didn't really say anything besides new rings rods and bearings. He said the engine would run, and it didnt because he sold it to me with a D15 crank gear on it.

it's burning oil...forsure..Ive been checking and filling constantly.

the oil is not milky at all. It goes from being clean oil. to dirty oil. Which is what its at now, dirty oil.

He said the motor had about 50K miles on it to begin with so IDK...i really have no money left and im sure as hell not going back to my d15b1 thats in the back yard.

Lets say the rings are messed up? how much would a shop charge to make everything good in the hood?

If that smoke is as white as it looks your head gasket is toast. My old d16a6 used to do that on start up once in a while, a full year before the head gasket got bad enough to start mixing the oil and coolant...

Have you noticed any oil in your intake? Check your throttle body for oil.

Check the PCV valve if you find oil in your intake manifold

Check compression Hot, then check it warm...this will tell you alot about the rings and head gasket. A leak down test wouldnt be a bad idea too

I know it took about 100 miles for my CP rings to seal fully. It smoked that bad for only about 2 miles though then it was just light smoke when stopped I could see it and hard accel/shift.

Hmm pretty consistent. It's odd that the smoke looks so white. Are you using coolant at all?

I meant, is it going through coolant. Like do you have to keep replacing it.

so you admit you had to fill it? Im confused?

I think its a combination of the two things. The PVC will suck as much oil when faulty as bad rings will. The white smoke is definately water. Oil doesnt make that much smoke. Also your oil could be getting dirty through break-in and through burning dirty coolant from the block. I think you should check the head gasket! Did you say you already changed the head gasket or did the guy you bought it from do it? I wouldnt trust him if he says its a new gasket.

Replace the cheap stuff!

well..it had a leak in the cooling system..so i had to drain it to fix the lower hose then re filled and bleed..so yes

PVC was bad and replaced it so that could stop the burning oil problem..ill check into that, havn't checked my oil since the oil change.

I put the head gasket on, this was back like a week after i got the engine..didn't know what i was doing, probably messed up something. I also used a cheap auto zone gasket. I will go to the acura dealership and get a genuine this time.

thanks for all your help..ill change it this weekend and let everyone know what happens

i went into autozone and asked a worker there and he said white smoke is Coolant being burned. so doing a leak down test would tell you exactly what's causing it. I do too have the same problem and i dont want to go ahead and change the head gasket if that's not the problem. If you fix it let me know what was wrong that way ill know what could be wrong with mine
