I have an 89 4dr LX converted over to mpfi. The old motor is shot and i just want an easy inexpensive dependable replacement (prefferably with low mileage) for daily grinding.

I have another motor im building but my car has sat too long! Need it to run, the build is now on the back burner and i might just put it in a hatch or CRX instead anyway.

So that said, I was looking at 88-92 SOHC ZC or DOHC ZC or any suggestions on a compariable motor along the same lines. Performance aside whats the easiest and most reliable?

Looking for a solid daily driver. Im not interested in a Vtec either. Just simple and inexpensive!

Also im trying to figure out the best place to order one? I have looked at Hmotorsonline,Japan Star Motors,Nippon and Import Auto Salvage. Noyan USA apparently isnt around any more website and the phone number doesnt work anymore!

I've neglected my car roots for about 3 yrs now so im out of the loop on a few things or i wouldnt ask. So I appreciate any information you can give me.

did you check the sticky at the top of the forum page? the one about where can i find an engine..... or somthing like that? try craigslist, or ebay, ect....marketplace..

I went with the SOHC ZC it will be here Friday! If anyones interested i'll post pics and the explain/show the condition of the motor and post where I got it from.
It will be some time before i put it in. I'm going to rework the wiring of the engine bay, clean it up and do some maintenance on the motor first before the install.

So i picked up the motor tonight.Looks pretty clean to me but i've never bought another motor before.I have pics just have to figure out posting them (its been 3 yrs atleast).

Stamp shows ZC on the block, the head has PM3-2 then circle stamp with 91.The oil cap says oil and Huile on it(not sure what that is). Has exhaust manifold with what looks like an heat exhaust off to the one side, like an exhaust for the shield(will see it in pics).Pulled valve cover, the rocker arms look like they have dried up oil on them. They are a oil tan/clear(what ever color you see it from bottle) on aluminum. Gives it the appearance of fresh oil on rocker arms just not glossy like when fresh.Cam lobs are still mirror like i can see my reflection in them. Cover looks almost new.The crank pulley has AC and power steering(yay). I have both on my 89 LX 4DR so thats a plus.Pulleys still shine,over all i think it looks pretty damn good!

Now i'm just trying to figure out which ZC motor it is being there are several types from japan.Any help figuring this out would be great i've tried searching but can't find solid info.

Thanks the true test will be i it runs good.I'm hoping for some longevity. Until I get the other motor fully built.

I was told this was a carbed model, so i'm guessing it is a D16Z1 then? I wasnt sure if circle stamp next to PM3-2 said 91 or Z1. But i think the D16Z1 was a carbed ZC.

Also should I take the head off and have it hot tanked to clean it? Or is better not to pull the head and clean it by hand and with what?

i would just pop the motor in there as is, youll be fine.

Not to hijack, but why do all these motor places use a paint pen, or whatever to write on the valve cover? I am guessing it won't come off, as I have seen quite a few cars with all the writing still there once the swap is done. Can't they do it somewhere not so out in the open?

looks clean. and they probably use the paint pen because it's fast and easy. plus people will still buy them.

also, did they not include an IM or a dizzy? and i'm not sure the ZC was carb'd, you should be able to throw a d16a6 manifold on there i think. someone correct me if i'm wrong, i'm sure there's a better manifold as well.

I have a D16Y8 intake manifold already set up for my car came off my old hatch and a Dizzy. I acually have another motor, i just need to build it. Its in pieces right now, waiting till i have the time and money to truely build it. I'll probably put the fully built motor in another hatchbox or rex.
