Default Questions on A/C Install into CRX DX without a/c to begin with

I will be moving shortly into the San Antonio Texas area within the next month or so and Im looking for info on adding A/C to my crx.

I have an 89 crx dx with an SI conversion (just fyi)

my questions

(1) Do all crxs (2nd gen) come pre wired for a/c? (if not what is needed)
(2) How hard of an install is it for all the plumbing, condenser, pump etc.
(3) and finally cost of adding the freon or whatever they use now for a/c systems

Please keep in mind that I dont want to sell my crx and pick one up in Texas with a/c ( A silver crx is too rare a color). I also have access to 3 junkyards within a few miles from me, so getting parts is not a problem.

Im just curious as to the undertaking of this. And yes I tried searching a/c installs, the search function doesnt allow for a search with anything with 3 letters or less.

I hope this helps. I have a CRX Si with the B16 swap and I just started putting AC in today. I don't have much time to do it, so I do little by little. I have been taking pictures each step of the way so I can actually post a "How-To CRX AC w/B16".

I bought all of the parts at a junkyard here in town (phoenix), cost me about $300, including everything but the Drier ($50 at Baps) and the belt for the compressor. They had the condenser, the compressor, all the hoses, and the deal that mounts under the dash, I think its called the evaporator. I also had to buy the Hasport AC mounting bracket for the b16.

The only thing that really needs to be wired is the clutch for the condensor (one wire) that goes right to the button inside the car. If you don't have a button, the junkyard will. I also think you have to hook up some pressure relays.

The install hasn't been hard so far. I am working with a different setup than a stock crx because I have the half radiator, so figuring where to mount the hoses is a little tricky. Otherwise everything bolts right up. All I have in the car right now is the condenser, the thing under the dash (which was already in there), and the compressor. None of that took much time.

I recently got a quote from a nearby AC company, and they told me it would cost about $100 to get the AC charged, since its pretty much completely dry. I do not recommend selling your CRX. I will keep you updated on when mine is complete (probably friday). And I will post a "how-to" up.

I wouldnt convert to the new coolent when you can use a replacement for the older stuff. Search for R12a replacment on google and you'll come across several products that are compatable. If you had ANY R12 in your previous system, the r132 will react and cause many bad times. This includes gaskets taht have soaked any up.

And yes, you going to have to run the AC lines through the firewall.

I wasnt planning on selling my car, I just figured someone would try and tell me to sell it and get a rex with a/c already installed.

I do already have the a/c button (replaced the entire unit with a spare since mine cracked)

Im gona take a look this weekend at the yards to see what I can come up with.

Thanks for the info..
