Default Question about installing a Skunk2 intake manifold on a B16a CRX Si

I am about to install a Skunk2 intake manifold on my B16 CRX Si and I wanted ask a few questions. First, is it OK to install the manifold with out the manifold braket? Because the Skunk2 manifold gets rid of it, is it OK or will it cause problems?

Second, since the skunk2 manifold is physically smaller than the B16a manifold, will I have a problem reusing my CRX Si Cold air intake, its a 88-91 CRX injen CAI and it fits with the B16, will it work with the Skunk2 manifold?

Last, I noticed that the skunk2 manifold doesn't use a Fast Idle Valve like on the B16a manifolds. How do I go about installing Manifold without reusing the Fast Idle Valve. Or do I not need it? What do I need to do?

One more question, has anybody used a Hondata metal intake manifold gasket, and does it work?
Thanks guys, any info I greatly appreciate.

have not used the hondata gasket, but it makes sense. if it is not too expensive, give it a shot. your old intake will line up fine. as for the idle valve, it seems my friends hatch with a B16 still had it, maybe you are thinking that the dashpot will be eliminated? is the sensor you mean on the front of the manifold, closer to the fuel rail?

No, I'm not talking about the Dash-pots, Because I don't have any on my B16 anyway, It is a 2nd gen b16 engine in the CRX, NonOBD setup though. I'm still talking about the Fast Idle Valve which is usually under the throttle body or connected to the throttle body. The B16 skunk2 manifold does't have a setup for one on the manifold like the original B16 manifolds do.

When you said my old intake will line up fine, your talking about the Cold Air intake, Right?
What about the skunk manifold not reusing the intake manifold bracket, is this OK, or could it be harmful?

I've had my ITR without a bracket for 3 years not, no issues. The bracket is there (I've heard) so that the factory can puck up the engine using the exhaust manifold and the intake manifold as hoist points.

That's just a rumor tho.

according to skunk2 you don't need that extra bracket to hold up the manifold. i'm not using one on my b20, i think it's there just to add strength and stability, which you really don't need. my advice would be to chuck the support bracket.

now about the fast idle valve, that's a toughy. i got around it by using a different throttle body..i used a newer b20 TB that has the valve attatched...my old b18a intake manifold had the valve attached to the body of the manifold instead of the TB as well...dunno what to say

OK on your b20 throttle body, does the fast Idle valve only mount to the throttle body or was it supposed to mount to the manifold also?

here what I got. I have both 1st and 2nd gen b16 intake manifolds and throttle bodies. the first gen has the fast idle valve connected only to the manifold and not the throttle body, so it uses the right TB gasket that works with the skunk manifold.
Then the 2nd gen has the fast idle valve connect to the Tb first and then to the manifold which uses a different Tb gasket.

Is it ok to just leave off the fast idle valve?

it mounts only to the TB. on the original B18A manifold i used, it mounted only to the manifold.

Then the 2nd gen has the fast idle valve connect to the Tb first and then to the manifold which uses a different Tb gasket.

can you just use the 2nd gen TB and buy a new TB gasket ($3) for it? i'm pretty sure it's a good idea to keep some sort of fast idle valve on the car.

if your 1st gen b16 manifold is setup like my b18a manifold, there was just a connecting pipe under the throttle body, and the fast idle valve mounted under the TB on the manifold. i used the b20 TB, bypassed that connecting pipe, so the hose comes off the iacv and goes all the way to the pipe on the side of the head..i patched in the fast idle valve and used the B20 TB gasket..no problems. i also used the b20 TB mounted map sensor, which works fine w/ my OBD0 setup. i hope this isn't confusing you any more..i can take pics of my setup if need be.
