Question about 1989 CRX HF
Hey guys not asking if i should buy the car just wondering if this seems right to yall? Im going to look at a crx hf tmrw and i was talking to him tonight and he said everything is stock except headers and full exhaust. He says it has D15B6 motor and 5 speed tranny, but he says he only gets 25mpg. The main reason i wanted and HF is for the MPG bc i have a long drive to work. Is it common for HF not to get 40mpg???
Thanks

Around 50mpg +/- would be more like it...
Changing the exhaust on a HF is never a good idea. The main reason being the O2 sensor will change its location drastically. Most likely making it dump a lot of fuel causing some or all of the problem that is bad gas milage. The HF thrives off the restrictive nature of the exhaust/intake manifold design - thus the small ports and only 2 valves per cylinder for the base it was built from...

yea i was thinking this was not normal. So If i get it and change the exhaust to stock it should get much better gas mileage? Do they still sale stock exhaust any ideas on price and who sells them?

Also he said the PO changed the car to fuel injection, would this mess with the MPG any? I just dont want to waste my time getting the car if i cant make it get good MPG.

I think he meant DPFI to MPFI (dual port to multi port fuel injection). It's already fuel injected.
For exhaust parts: http://www.hondapartscheap.com/index...FOLD%20%281%29 and http://www.hondapartscheap.com/index...HAUST%20SYSTEM (don't have a heart attack at the prices)

Re: Question about 1989 CRX HF
You are both misinformed... The HF already came MPFI from the factory. The HF and Si's were the only two '88-91 "EF" chassis style that came MPFI; the rest were DPFI.
Are you sure it's an '89 and not an '84-87? The first generation HF came with carburators.
Sounds like the blind leading the blind on this one... The owner must have absolutley no clue what they are talking about, and is trying to "talk up" the car.

Try the H-T Marketplace for your region or do a daily search of every craigslist within driving distance.
BTW: If you're willing to go there, any stock CRX/Civic in that gen will get good gas mileage. My DX ('88 Civic) got 40+ and my SI ('90 CRX) got 30+. I bet I could have got much better but, I had a lead foot in that SI. lol

Re: Question about 1989 CRX HF
I searched long and hard before finding a completely stock HF. It has 300k + miles and I paid quite a lot for it, but it's worth it. The gas mileage is great! You most likely will need to travel to pick one up. Also maybe look for a Civic VX...
Good luck with your search,

Re: Question about 1989 CRX HF
yea i have found a completely stock one but like you said im going to have to drive for it. Its a 10 hours trip from where i am. Its an 88 HF he said if i make the trip he would do it for 2k. seems like a good deal but long trip! but im thinking if i have the car for years it would be worth it. Also love the red, the one im looking at is white not my fav color choice

Re: Question about 1989 CRX HF
Also I have been wondering about this, as yall can tell im new to the crx world and i have been trying to do some research on the HF engine and from what I can tell they have the D15B6 motor. Someone also told me they can have D15B2 motor? Is this correct or is it only D15B6??

Re: Question about 1989 CRX HF
D15B6 is correct. Saw 1 on ebay in '08 w/B2. Seller claimed it was bone stock. Then "that's what I was told..." Still brought over 4K. B2's have a flat round black top on intake about where a carb would be on older versions.

Re: Question about 1989 CRX HF
yea that's how my 1989 crx dx looks like and it has d15b2 so i was like how can they have the same engine? Thought maybe the 8 valve vs the 16 valve made the diffidence. Does the 8 Valve have anything to do with it getting good gas mileage?

Re: Question about 1989 CRX HF
I ended up not gettin the crx in NC, my brother lives near by and i got him to go check it out and take some up close pics and it had rust on 3 of 4 wheel fenders and had busted windshield, messed up blinkers, and dents all in the hood and he wouldnt come down on the price any so i am still on the hunt for a stock HF...

Re: Question about 1989 CRX HF
u could pick up a rust free hf shell from sw region maybe 500$, buy an original stock running hf from the rustbelt, lots of those under $1500 look for a state w/safety inspections and you've got a fun winter project - and spare parts!
