Is it possible to put a clutch on backwards?
So I just bought a pretty much rust free Honda Civic SI Hatchback today. The car is not completely done yet bought from someone who in the process of finish a twin cam swap (zc). Anyways the guy put the motor in and everything in and put a new clutch in and thats where he thinks there is a problem. He thinks he put the clutch (6 puck) on backwards so my question is, is that possible? Note that when I pushed the car and it was still in gear the motor was turning (then took it out of gear). So what are you guys thoughts? Let me know and can't wait to meet some people on this forum!

A clutch disc can be put in backwards, and it will cause the clutch to never disengage due to contacting the crankshaft-to-flywheel bolts and pushing the disc against the pressure plate.
Pull your clutch and make sure it hasn't been damaged, and flip it over. 9 times out of 10, though, a clutch installed backwards is damaged by the crank bolts.

sounds normal to me. everyone is right the spring would hit the flywheel bolts if it was indeed backwards...im sure any noob would second guess it if they installed it wrong, it would be pretty obvious. If you got time go for it and check it. Did you notice anything actually wrong? or are you just going by what he said? Also congrats on your new Si

If you leave it in gear, depress the clutch pedal, and push the car, does the engine still turn?
This "should" tell you if the clutch is disengaging properly before going ahead and pulling the tranny.

I will check this tomorrow, Just got the motor going today so we will see what happens. I really don't have time to check the clutch by tearing it apart. So going to start with this method. Double checking: Depress means press in clutch right? lol

If it's in neutral you might not hear any grinding.
Have someone sit in the car with it in gear and the clutch pedal pushed in, then push the car and see it it rolls freely or if the engine trys to turn.
