the Redline.
I always pump it about 1/4 left. don't want to get stuck in the middle of nowhere

Mine goes empty and stops running when the needle dips just a little under the red line.
That's my car though.

The only way to really find out on yours is to empty the tank or run it dry.

the factory guages arent really calibrated to any tight tolerance. each car/guage will be different. just gotta know your car.

Mine can go about 1/8" below the bottom of the red line.

Don't ask me how I know

You guys do know that running a car with an electric in-tank pump
low on gas is not a really good idea right?

Besides picking up all the crap off the bottom of the tank,
The fuel pump relies on the fuel around it to keep it cool..

i just fill up at the line but only takes like 8-9 gallons usually so i guess im good for a little below line, just scared for the above issue of cooling and sucking up stuff from tank

I filled up 11 gallons today . Never ran it out that far before. Kinda scared me when I saw the numbers on the pump. Mine goes a little below the line.

Know of someone who once had a suburban that made that mistake. My dad got a call and had to drive an hour and a half to get the guy from somewhere out in the middle of nowhere.

edit: **** I meant to hit edit on that last one. Crap.

you know the fuel pump inlet just sits at the bottom of the tank anyway. its not like running low would cause any more drudge that would be in there to occur.

That is debatable..
As long as it is saturated, the filter sock absorbs fuel from all around it..
It picks up the fuel which offers the least resistance..

At near empty,it pulls from directly beneath it because
that is all that is avalible..

agreed, plus i've always heard it's not good to run fuel injected cars all the way dry screws up the system or something

on mine the bottom if the redline is bone dry. I thought i could squeeze one more Arron out of the tank and it died on the freeway lol even at WOT the car ran like **** not even an idle. maybe 200 rpm. any way i filled it up and it said ~10.8 gallons and this was back (in CA ) when gas was $2.60 a gal i wana put a light on mine so it dosent happen again

EDIT: LOL my dad got his tacoma out there on the freeway and all we could find was the dog's leash it was suprisingly strong though and my dad "towed" me to the gas station

I totally ignore the gauge. I use the trip meter. I can get AT LEAST 360 miles per tank, so I try to fill up when I hit the 340-360 range.
