ODB1 Upgrade to EF Hatch 89 DX/STD
ok, just like it says, i pulled the whole harness out of a 94 teg to upgrade the harness to OBD1 and junked the old ODB0 Harness, Ok don't need defroster so thats not wired up
And im not sure but heard the dimmer on the 94 Teg was internal.
SRS is gone. All the power options are gone.
just the cluster, brake and, heater to wire up.
NOW I KNOW the heater harness is separate and i don't have that so that will be for a later time
But so far ive done a little of the conversion on the Teg harness to the 89 Cluster heres what i got
Civic 89 Integra 94
"A" Plug (CIVIC CLUSTER)
1 to 6 ----(Small "C" Plug) Ground
2 to 6 ----(Large "B" Plug) Speed/VSS
3 to (((Blank)))
4 to 16 ---(Large "B" Plug) Brake Warning
5 to 1 ----(Large "B" Plug) Seat Belt
6 to 15 ---(Large "B" Plug) High Beam
7 to 7 ----(Large "B" Plug) Hatch/Trunk Open
8 to 14 ---(Large "B" Plug) Right Turn
"B" Plug (CIVIC CLUSTER)
1 to 13 ---(Large "B" Plug) Left Turn
2 to 7 ----(Small "C" Plug) Coolant Temp Gauge
3 to 3 ----(Large "B" Plug) Fuel Gauge
4 to 11 ---(Small "C" Plug) Oil Pressure
5 to 12 ---(Small "C" Plug) Check Engine/CEL
6 to UNKNOWN Light Switch
7 to 9 ----(Large "B" Plug) Dimmer
8 to (((Blank)))
9 to UNKNOWN Charge Warning (#14 Fuse)
10 to UNKNOWN Charge Warning (Alternator)
11 to 13 ---(Small "C" Plug) Tach
12 to UNKNOWN Coolant Temp Sensor
Now heres the list of Wires i have Not be able to cross trace from the 94 teg harness
C PLUG (SMALL 13 PIN)
4 --Power
9 --Chargine Light/Battery
B PLUG (LARGE 16 PIN)
2 --Door
11 --Illuminate
10 -- +12 Volt From Ignition
AND ALL UNUSED
Low Fuel
ABS
VSS
Cruise Control
Maintenance
SRS
so what do yo guys think goes in my UNKNOWN fields?
im doing some more tracing via diagrams but im still unsure. Any Help would be greatly appreciated and ive looked almost everywhere no ones done this to an DX 89 Hatch, just CRX's and Civic Si all 90-91 and the few that were 89 were different models so wire color and position never matched.

deym, as much as i would like to help, am so lazy to type things i wanna say lol
i can understand your situation. makes me recall what i did 5 years ago.
https://honda-tech.com/forums/honda-crx-ef-civic-1988-1991-3/jdm-ef9-sir-guage-cluster-plugs-1471464/
if i understand it right, you're re-using your 89 cluster right?
it's a cable driven speedo right? so you need to tap the vss output wire towards your obd-1's plug B pin 10.
C PLUG (SMALL 13 PIN)
4 --Power - must be switched power. pull wire from under dash fuse box
9 --Charging Light/Battery - wired to your alternator (white/blue wire on all civic/etg models)
B PLUG (LARGE 16 PIN)
2 --Door - ground triggered from your left/right door jumb switches
11 --Illuminate - chassis ground
10 -- +12 Volt From Ignition same as C4
am at my office work right now and lemme see if i can grab some of my old diagrams when i'll be home with my laptop.

I'm confused. Why did u label your post "obd1 upgrade to EF hatch 89 dx/STD" when from the sounds of what you wrote you are doing a cluster swap which has nothing to do with converting to obd1?

Re: ODB1 Upgrade to EF Hatch 89 DX/STD
maybe he's starting to convert his gauge's wires/plugs first(easiest in fact) and later the rest of the harness?

Re: ODB1 Upgrade to EF Hatch 89 DX/STD
Yes. i did the WHOLE car harness to OBD1 for the EF 89 STD model hatchback
I really wanted the plug n play of OBD1 and ive already wired the rest of the car, all lights
sensors,engine, but the cluster.
I'm just fishing up the wiring of it with the cluster and i tired it out, and everything works great but the TEMP Gauge reads back words and goes downward when turning on power to the car.
so i think i need to swap the "coolant temp sensor with the "coolant temp" gauge and see if this fixes the issue.
but wondered the impact of trying to use the harness with a cable VSS? Would the ECU have a hard time managing the engine without a Electronic VSS to input speed data?

Re: ODB1 Upgrade to EF Hatch 89 DX/STD
I'm actually working my way up to that point in my own 91 EF, just stuffed an entire Obd-1 cabin harness in my joint and I think I might run into the same thing, i'll tell you how I got around it...or dealt with it.

Re: ODB1 Upgrade to EF Hatch 89 DX/STD
But the only wire i have left is a Soild Yellow wire (12 Volt Power)
the temp gauge wire for the cluster is in its right spot on 89 Civic cluster A plug pin 2
the only empty spot is the pin 12
and the pinout i found says that the Temp Gauge as where pin 2 is the Temp sensor.
so everyone Am i missing something? Ive looked on the back of the cluster and say it has 3 contacts the Neg,Pos,Ground am i right?
i see the groud goes to the ground on the small "B" plug and it has the wire from the temp sensor. But does it need another form of power. The yellow wire seems to over power it or under power since the needle goes down when the yellow is hooked into the pin 12 spot.
So what gives? anyone with any clues help me solve this mystery Hell get scooby and the gang if you have to.

Re: ODB1 Upgrade to EF Hatch 89 DX/STD
just curious buuut whats the point in hacking in an obd1 harness? seems pointless to me. whyd you throw out the obd0 harness instead of just adding a few plugs here and there and be done with it? ive converted 3 efs to obd1 using the chassis harness and a jumper. am i the only one with money for the extra parts or what

Re: ODB1 Upgrade to EF Hatch 89 DX/STD
im the only one that does any work to my 2 civics. buying an ecu conversion harness instead of hacking up wiring myself is easier and much cleaner IMO. im all for building your own setups and have no problem with saying i bought a jumper to make my engine run.
