Is it bolted onto a bracket kind of near the hood release lever? Kind of sounds like the starter relay if so. Take the starter out and have it tested. If it tests fine, it could be the starter relay. Before you do anything, you need to make sure you have a good battery in the car and find out why the one you just put in there wont hold a charge.

Nope not that this little ****** is under the 1991 civic ash tray. It is behind all that. You can see it If you look back there from driver side. It is small 4 prong square relay

I trouble shot a bit today is I am not getting signal to starter. Bench trested. Starter does work. I ground out screwdriver from power on starter to signal prong and i got car started

Some where there is a issue with starter signal and I cant figure it out

That clicking is your main relay. Pull it out and pop the cover off with a screwdriver. Then check the solders to see if there still good. If not melt some solder on it. Next check your distributor. Open it up and see if rotor is still intact and good. Also check you coil at the same time.

Hi- EF devotion.

I am talking about a smaller relay near ash tray by ciggarette lighter. Its a small square 4 pin relay. Its clicking, More then the larger main relay would. The main relay is not clicking currently it is a smaller relay. I tried to trace it but I gave up it goes up by the cluster. Its located behind the shift console and radio on the left hand side.

I am lead to believe that it is the bigger main relay. I replaced it 1x before and had the old one on back up and cant find it. (sucks) because I think it may be the main. IDK.

I did check the distributor. Rotor is still intact and good. I checked the coil with ignition on and it has power.

I just turn key, and it dont send signal to start car. It worked about 4-5 mons ago. Car is parked and My dad is moving out of his house where my car is stored and I have to get it out soon.

Now and than I get a click from the main relay but I forget how to actually test out the main relay..... I had info on it before and cant find it. Test the terminals..??

I just got a brand new battery and thought it could have been the issue. put a brand new odyessey pc 680 in the car yesterday and still no signal...

I was having the same problem all day yesterday and today. I have the same main relay as you do. Chances are, it's still good. I took my starter off and got it tested and all was good. Also went to advance auto and replaced the main relay. Still no cranking at all. Turned out it was a bad ground from the negative terminal. Add more wire to the negative and my ef cranked right up!!

Yup. People underestimate what a bad ground can do.

Also check the valve cover ground, transmission ground and thermostat ground. The names really explain where they are.

Yea I know what they are and where they are all located. I built my honda Nut and bolt. Its all been pretty much done by me. Problem is it has been sitting and things start to go bad as they sit. Battery was low. Got new one. I could have sworn I had it fixed the other day. I turn the key, and the radio and all would go off. (go to start). I discovered that I jumped a hot off of something (radio power) to power the cigg. lighter. The relay I am showing Is I believe a CIGGERETTE LIGHTER relay. When I go to start that clicks. I removed the fuse and it does not click. I had the car turn over friday, and havent worked on it since. Now the car wont turn over.

I cleaned all the grounds terminal with sandpaper when I put battery in.

Just not sure why it does no get signal. Really stumpped I will try and clean the 1 last ground that I did not get to which is the T stat ground.

I got the same problem and I trouble shooted the main relay harness and found there is a break between the pin 4 which is the starter switch and the fuse box but cant find a way to fix the problem as the wire from the main relay harness doesn't go exactly to the fuse box. Any help would be appreciated.
