Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
^Thanks again man. So I'm still waiting on the struts to come in so I decided to put in the si 20/40 prop valve and do a little interior clean up.
The old prop valve with lines detached.
17/25 WTF!? Lol
New 20/40 FTW!
Installed.
Now onward to the interior. There was a stupid white custom hand painted guage cluster installed and that had to go. I have a stock black one, only thing that sucks is it has over 213,000 miles on it. The white one only has 141,000. Oh well who cares. And the super sweet GT Grant steering wheel has to go as well lol.
In all honesty it doesn't look that hideous.
All removed.
The goods.

I'm just curious as to why you used the 2040? I see that you intend to swap to the 7CLP13S rear calipers, but are you using the 16CL13VN front calipers from the '90-91 Si?

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
Ok so here's the deal. Everything is completely good with the black guage cluster except for the fact that there is a dead mosquito inside the glass, and it PISSES me off! lol. How it got in there only God knows. Me being super **** about cars, I had to get it out. So naturally I wanted to remove the glass and remove it. My bro told me a trick about putting the cluster in the oven at low temp to melt the adhesive and pull the "glass" off. Sounds like a good idea. He also suggested I try it on the crappy white one first in case I mess up, also a good idea. He also said it would probably be a good idea to remove everything I could from the cluster like light bulbs, wiring, ect. So I did.
While doing that I found this cool little guy.
A way in!
I just turned it upside down and out fell the dirty little blood sucker. I didn't take a pic, I knew I should have lol. So here's where my curiousity got the best of me. I could have called it a night then but I kinda wanted to see if I could get the glass of anyway and possibly roll back the odo (I know it's illegal but they don't even check mileage on cars this old! And my engine has only 700 miles on it.) So I decided to try the oven trick on the white one. 200 degrees 10 min, nothing. 200^F 15 min, nothing. 210^F 5 min, nothing. 215^F what was supposed to be 3 min (got destracted responding on HT) turned into 7 min...smelted lol. Momma always said "never leave the oven unattended". Momma was right!

The damage isn't too bad, just a little distortion. I didn't realize until after the fact, that you can remove the glass and faceplate as one piece at the same time. Just push all the tabs in at the same time and pull it out, which is hard to do by yourself lol. Oh well at least I still have old blackie!

I have 90-91 dx front calipers, but 91 si rears. I was under the impression from what I read that the si prop valve would do just fine with dx fronts.

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
I rebuilt my complete suspension/brakes/steering on my crx last year, it is a lot of work, but well worth it, mine had 190k on it, all bushings were fried. I did ebc pads n rotors, russell lines, energy suspension, skunk 2 front n rear camber kit, rear toe kit, ksport coilovers, love the coilovers, they are fully adjustable, and were the almost the same price as a good spring/shock combo. Ls vtec is next for me, block and head are in the motor shop right now

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
So My new struts came today! I probably wont get to put them on till tomorrow because I won't have access to a good shop spring compressor until then. So I installed a new inner cv boot on the half shaft that was flinging grease all over my steering rack, which I just cleaned.
Fricking $18 genuine honda boot.
Cleaned out the inside really good.
Cleaned bearings.
All back together. I didn't take pics of me greasing the crap out of everthing and assembling it cause I didn't have a free hand to take a pic lol.

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
Ok so I have a question about the springs and struts. I was just test fitting stuff today and when I put my rear Eibach springs on the kyb struts I was able to put everything on and tighten down the nut without even using a spring sompressor, It had room to spare and was way easy to get the top hat on. I know they are shorter because they are lowering springs but they just seem, well too low lol. Are they shot or is this normal? The Eibach fronts are the same size as my stock fronts so I don't know. Here's a pic to show what I mean. Left are the rears and right are the fronts, side by side comparisson.

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
i have never used a spring compressor throughout the years of installing lowering springs on my ed civics so im assuming its normal...btw that gt grant wheel is baller...i got one in my g-body cutlass

Re: My 91 crx suspension/steering/brake rebuild
could it be possible that the PO cut the oem front springs? did you have to use spring compressors to remove the front springs?

I got the clamps from NAPA. Just ask them for cv boot clamps and they'll get them in the back for you. Only like 1 buck a piece, and they are very easy to use. They're kinda like pinch clamps.

Hey bro, I'd definitely be interested in selling you the wheel or trading it for something. MPFI swap parts perhaps? PM me with an offer or any parts you have if you're still interested.
