Icon3 MT CRX Build and Swap

Thanks for looking at my build. I have had her for almost 3 years now!!

***80,000 Views 11/01/2012***

Hundreds and hundreds of pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Couple of videos and counting!!!!!!

Where we are now!!!

So I bought a 91 CRX HF shell a few months ago. I just joined on here and figured I will start a build thread to keep track of my progress.

This is how she looked when I first saw her...

I knew she was in rough shape, but for $300 I said screw it I will make her fly one day and I bought her.

I took her back to my college, and parked her in our parking lot to sit until I could buy parts and work on her..

She had nasty interior, a broken windshield, missing axles, etc.

That's a LOT of work ahead of you!
Probably paranoia from living in California, but my initial fear is that somebody at your college sees that as a 'parts car' while you getting going again and parts start disappearing =/

Here are some more pictures of her in the lot.

Well my girlfriend and I hated how nasty the inside was and I was thinking of building my first fiberglass or aluminum dash, so out went all of the interior except the headliner.
It was SOOOO dirty!
She needs parts!

Here is the first pile of crap we threw out of her.

Her underside!

Girl and I cleaning out the gross dirt and whatever else was in there.

I know what you mean! It is a ton of work! But I LOVE IT! My girlfriend and I each have another car. She has a 98 Jeep I jacked up and made awesome, and I have a 2011 Mustang GT 5.0... So we dont need it to get done right away.

And I at a special military college so no one would risk taking my stuff haha. Plus I am our base Car Club President, so I know all the guys who would want it lol...

Stock Brakes...

Ooooohhhhh shiny new DA Knuckle, Caliper, and Rotor!

Too bad the other knuckle I had was another driver's side and not a passenger's side... I threw a set of EK knuckles on instead. DA Calipers and rotors fit it... My camber is waaaay positive though!

GEEEZ! You are working on this FAST!
I was thinking you would have it sitting for weeks before getting into it!
Keep up the good work - looks great so far!

I am shocked to see some one in this forum start a build and actually follow through even more so to do it the right way. Good job! Swap looks like its coming along nice. Rear tail lights are funky though. Good luck!

This thread is sheer awesomeness. I tip my hat to you, sir, for:

1. rescuing a CRX from the rust pile and actually working on it

2. finding an awesome woman who works on cars with you

3. serving our country (you said you were in the military, right?)

Stay awesome.

Haha yeah.... It DID sit for weeks! Months! It was winter here, and yeah way too cold in colorado to work on her. But now it is summer and I want to get her to run!

Well I am glad you think I am doing it the right way! Haha I dont know what you really mean by that, but again thanks! I am really trying to not spend a ton of money on her, but I am looking at pulling the trigger on a custom harness from Rywire, or make one myself haha. But probably Rywire with a military quick disconnect. That will make it look clean!

I really want to put the least amount of wiring in this car as is possible. The car will be a drag racing car, and I want to drive it on the street as well haha. mean it will not be "street legal", but I want to trust it enough to be able to drive it 10k miles a year if I want to.

1. Well haha I am regretting number 1 slightly at the moment since I have exactly 0 things I needed for this swap haha. But it is what it is, and I wont give up now!

2. Yeah I love my girl. We are both in the Air Force at the moment and she is doing her best to get into it with me haha. I love it. Even the bad days when nothing gets done and more trouble pops up. I love working on cars and enjoy the time. But yes my fiancee is amazing and this will hopefully be her car to drive when we finish with it. Pink Camo and a West Wings body kit too loud for you guys? Haha. (Just kidding I think it will be matte black.)

3. No problem. I love serving my country. I want to keep everyone free and able to enjoy everything they love. Like working on old cars .

So not much of an update... But it was a decent day I guess.

Here is a blurry picture of the wiring I am trying to fix.. It is a bit well effed up.

But I did get the oil changed today, several grounds ran and hooked up, the wire from the alternator to the fuse box, and we were trying to piece my wiring together and failing miserably!

BAHAHA! When I say, "I'd like to see that," please take it with a grain of salt!

You should take some video when you start it up. Can't wait to hear it.

I've literally never seen someone go after a Honda in the condition yours started out as for anything but scrap parts. Great job so far!

1. oooh, HF, well done!
2. gutting, nice job!
3. hey, cute girlfriend and she's helping out with a smile... cool!
4. GSR? smart move!
5. It's already in!? nice pace!
6. FAIL!!!!! why would you remove the perfectly awesome OEM taillamps for such crappy ebay ones?! ugh I hate people!!! it's like putting chrome wheels on a Porsche!
7. drag radials, neat!
8. ebay "racing" seats, ugh... it's like a Lemons car with Kiwi and/or Russian engineers...
9. wiring mess, haha, do not envy

Well thanks! I was originally just going to make it a race car. Pure drag no street. So looks didnt matter.

1. of course... it is super light!
2. well thanks... it took a lot of hard work and a ton of cleaning supplies...
3. Hey eyes off the girl!
4. couldnt afford a K20 ahha but I hope the JDM GSR will do me well
5. Yeah well I dont like to let things be unfinished...
6. I had those ebay ones for $10 bucks off a buddy and sold one of my 2 sets of oem ones for $200. It was worth the profit. Plus my original idea was to name this car the mother ricer and well rice it out... haha.. I am really debating making my own lights and wiring in leds for them. I will just make a blacked out panel, no bumps or anything... hmmm... I need to make it run first...
7. hahha yeah.. i really just wanted some 15 inch rims on the cheap. $100 for both and the DRs.. Well I wasnt complaining!
8. hahahah oh that made me laugh pretty good. Those are the temporary seats... I will be throwing in something else later. I am leaning towards Recaro at the moment.. Any suggestions?

I am thinking these...

But the ebay ones are good enough for test fitting and getting dirty while the car is finished.. I was SICK of sitting on a tool box...

I ordered a few things last night. A jumper harness. OBD0-OBD1... xenocron baby.. and then i ordered a battery tray, a drivers side mirror. And I see now that my crappy ebay intake is almost here. Yaaay for parts!

Eventually the engine is being pulled, rebuilt for boost, edelbrock Victor X intake and TB, and then a nice big 64mm turbo is going on top of it all.

and Driven... man the movie your quote is from sucked haha.. I watched it on netflix the other day.

Recaros are great seats. Most professional race cars in the world are set up with Recaros or Sparcos. That said, they're not cheap (as I'm sure you've seen). They definitely know what they can charge for their reputation.
