Default knowing the tranny year 56k beware

alright im pretty sure i got ripped off. i bought a 91 si tranny. but it was missing a rear motor mount even though it was pictured. thing was covered in oil when i received meaning he didnt even drain it...code read PL3-A000 and it only had one groove on the spindle. now that one groove means an 89 tranny right? and generally speaking the A000 code means its a DX. i just need conformation that one groove means 89 and two means 90=91 thx

I have heard that the gears are the same for si and dx, it's just the final drive that's different. Point being, it's *possible* that it may have been rebuilt and the fd replaced with the si. Of course, you could have been just plain ripped off.

Go ahead and tell us who it was. Maybe he'll change his mind about helping you out.

Default Re: (DOHCZCCRXSi)

ok here is teh summary of things: i bought a 1991 CRX Si Tranny off MREF8 (https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=1070206) Now i recieved the tranny covered in oil. I id the tranny the stamp goes PL3-A000. There was also only one groove on the spindle (0 grooves = 88, 1 groove = 89, 2 grooves = 90-91) now just right there i find things fishy. he gave me an 89 Tranny. i id the tranny PL3-A000 mean its a DX tranny. Now some have said that 88-89 years might have that stamp on the tranny casing cause they use teh smaller bearings but stil is an Si tranny. I talk to him on aol he was like he has to be a Si tranny cause its got L3-########. im like that is teh serial code it doesnt mean ****. and then i go ahead and ask why its an 89 tranny he signs off. i Pm him on here and tell him i want a refund caue this isnt the tranny you describe. he goes SOrry no refund and disappears. I look on his for sale thread again and if you look at all this crx items none of them are dated he always goes 90-91 crx whatever. JUst by talking to this guy his knowledge lacks in ever area. im not even sure how he got all that stuff he is selling. who konws could of been stolen. But i continue to ask him to explain to me how this can be an 91 Si tranny when the stamp is A000 even if it is an Si tranny it cant be a 91 it has to be an 88 or 89. I have a feeling this is just a plain old DX tranny. Even if it is a 88 Si tranny i cant use it due to the flywheel/clutch spline count. So bottom line DO NOT BUY ANY CRX OR ANYTHING FOR THAT MATTER OFF THIS GUY MREF8. i am now out 200 dollars with tranny i dont even want. Oh yea in the picture you see how its got the rear motor mount and other things. when i got it it was just coverd and stripped. looked like its was dragged across the concrete cause teh bottom side is completely scrapped up. when he shipped it he just basically threw it in a box taped the hell out of it and sent it to me....
tranny he was selling:
1991 GREAT CONDITION CRX Si tranny (it looks like the one there has two grooves on his spindle)

TRANNY HE SENT ME:With one groove 1989/ no motor mount

he still argues its a "90-91" tranny he doesnt even know the year. im sure all of this crx stuff is bunk....according to the grooves and stamp code the only way this can be an SI tranny is if it is a 88-89 due to the casing stamps...

Very mature

And you say thats not your tranny in the pics, how come the same pics that he used are in your for sale thread ? And the tranny looks the same from what I can see, the hoses are routed the same way.

open the tranny up (see steps 1-6 under How to remove the transmission housing in the first post here: https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=596873 )

now count the teeth on this diff ring gear. then count the teeth on the small pinion gear that meshes with it. divide big number by small number. If it's 4.25, you've got an Si (or built-to-si-specs) CRX tranny.

If it's 3.88 (DX), you got taken.

It should only take 15-20 mins to get the case off. You need a 3/8" ratchet, 12mm socket, and a big needlenose or snapring pliers to expand the snap ring.

my recommendation, give the guy a little credit until you know the gear ratio. After that, the truth will be plain as day.

case and point: If i had a perfectly good si tranny with a busted case, and happened to use a dx case to replace it, does that make the tranny a DX? on the other hand, it does appear that the single mainshaft groove on yours makes it an 89 vs 90-91. HOWEVER, they both use the same splined clutch disc, which makes 89-91 trannys completely interchangeable. an 88 would need a different clutch disc. And although unlikely, it's possible the mainshaft has been replaced sometime in the tranny's life.

FYI: If i have enough good parts from 4 trannys to build one good one, then i will build it, and be completely honest about what i'm selling. if it's built to 90-91 Si specs, I'll sell it as a REBUILT 90-91 Si. But when it gets to the 3rd or fourth owner after me (as tends to happed with honda/acura parts), they won't be as knowledgable about what they have...

Open case and double check but if the guy thinks L3 means Si trans and he's advertising things he doesn't know...

why the hell would i make up some something that stupid? that is the exact tranny you sent me i still have the box and everything. you ripped me off plain as day. you dont even know what you are talking about. i bought from him cause he seemed like he was honest....now i know better. i just hope no one else bought any crx items from him. his "90-91" crx si parts.... ill rip open the case this weekend hopefully. but till then... from how he responds adn how his description changes. and how he just said that the tranny pictured is not his. i give him no credit and once again even in this community there are huge scammers...

so why does it really matter that he sent you a 89 tranny? I can still use the 20 spline clutch from a 90-91. I see your mad that he said it was from the wrong year but still it will work fine with any 90-91 clutch. It's just the in 89 they used a smaller clutch with the same spline count and upgraded to a bigger one in 90
edit: oh i didnt read that it might not be a Si tranny

yea...at the looks of it he doesnt even know what he has....and like i said beware of all his crx "90-91" si stuff....if i knew it was a 89-91 si tranny then no i wouldnt be that mad lil tick caue he lied about the year, but at least i dont have to go through all this trouble to see if it even is. from the looks of it the chances are slim. we shall see when i have TIME to get this straigthened out.

MrEF8: hey men what happen i no i didnt send the wrong tranny
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: dude
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: its wrong
MrEF8: it came off my car
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: i hate to be an ***
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: but this is not a 91 tranny
MrEF8: but my car is a 1991 honda crx si
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: like i said the tranny is a 89 tranny
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: proven in the picture
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: as far asi can tell and most can tell its a 89 dx tranny
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: who ever had the car before you ripped you off.....dx is almost like an Si tranny...cept not as much "lift" or get go since the only differences is that the dx and the si final drive is different
MrEF8: i dont no men sorry about that
MrEF8: but the tranny came off the car so i dont no
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: like i said i hate to be an ***....but i am a college student...it takes me two weeks to earn that money....and when i get ripped of im not happy nor is anyone else... i posted pics on HT and they even say its not a Si tranny . its not even a 91 or 90 tranny...
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: the tranny is now just sitting there cause i have no idea what to do with it...
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: i cant use it
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: now i have to find another Si tranny so i can put it in my car before it dies.....i needed the tranny before the 2nd cause i needed to drive the car far...but now i cant...and need to find another ride...
MrEF8: you can always sell the tranny
MrEF8: on ebay
MrEF8: or recycldr
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: no one wants to buy a Dx tranny
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: its worth 20 bucks....
MrEF8: theres some people out there that would buy a tranny
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: im still out 160 bucks
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: and i still need to find a REAL si tranny
MrEF8: i was scammed on honda-tech too
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: so why you have to scam me
MrEF8: your not the first

then he goes on and tries to tell me how someone owes him 240 for a "spoon" wing...

GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: im 23
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: i have rent to pay
MrEF8: you have more time
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: i am ******* 23
MrEF8: im 18
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: i pay rent
MrEF8: and
MrEF8: ?
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: i pay for school
MrEF8: ok
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: i pay for food
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: i dont have fuckign 200 to give to some ******
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: that likes to scam people
MrEF8: i go to ucr and i pay more for your rent
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: for **** that you have no idea what it even is.
GraPh1cAlR3aLitY: i pay 650 plus utilites

MrEF8: everybody that seen your post asked me but there like whatever

this guy is clearly a young immature scam artist. i feel bad for the person who bought his b20 "jdm". i hope its real and works out for him. because from talking to him he knows nothing and when you try to talk nice to him he is a total smart *** or at least tries to be... i just want my money back....i cant afford to buy another....
