pretty sure its drive by wire, if you have not bought the engine yet you moght think about getting a k20a2 it rated 1hp less but 2ft lb more, it you would eazier to swap a 02-05 engine

1hp/2tq difference?

who cares

go take a healthy dump, jog a few pounds off, and that difference was just removed

k20z1 and k20a2 TB's are identical. They are both cable driven.

get whichever motor you can find a deal on. There's not much point paying a ton of extra money for a motor that really only has slightly different cams. That said, z1 will probably have less miles on it than an a2. If you are planning on using aftermarket cams anyways, both motors are essentially identical at that point.

Are you using the z1 trans? That will make the swap more difficult, but could be worth it depending on your power goals. The z1 6 speeds have a final drive of 4.7:1 IIRC while the k20a2's 6 speed has a 4.3 (I think). The VSS on the z1 trans is high frequency and could cause issues when using a kpro'd ECU. There are signal converters you can buy to get around it and also you can use an 02-04 trans as an alternative.

All of your questions would be answered 10 fold if you just spent some time in the FAQ's on k20a.org.
