JDM Rear Seat + OEM honda parts
this came from the UK...
i got a package deal from a 1.5x that was being parted out
velvet door cards, power window switches, harness, motor, arms, and a jdm rear seat
the rear seat had some black duct tape on the top of the seat back covering some nasty tears in the vinyl. I dont have any before pictures, i wish i would have remembered to take them but i didn't.
so anyway, there is an upholstery shop 10 feet from where i work so i brought them the seat back and had them re-do it.
while it was stripped they gave me the metal frame as it was covered in a thick powder layer of rust over the entire thing.
so i took it to the shop and removed all the rust with a wheel and some spongy sanding pads until i had all the rust removed. next i coated the frame with flat black rust paint to try and slow the process so it doesn't come back too soon.
turned out ok, the paint can i got i think had shitty paint in it because it left a bit of a rough texture, and spattered quite a bit, but it got the job done so i guess who cares.
the seat frame origionally looked like this

Re: JDM Rear Seat + OEM honda parts
moving on, not sure if you can tell from the pictures above, but i was missing the release **** for the seat back... it was too much work to source just these parts so i decided to innovate.
this is the first how-to of its kind as far as i know.
anyway, so i tried to source the part number for the actual jdm parts, no luck, so i did some thinking and looked through majestic and a few other honda part sites until i found a diagram of some parts that were similar to what i needed.
i took the chance and decided to order the parts anyway and just hope that they work with little effort.
the parts i sourced fit both a civic eg and an integra dc (even type r)
so that was enough to convince me that all release ***** must be exactly the same for all honda/acuras!
so the parts came in today, came with both the plugs for the hole and the rod that screws on to the threads to act as the actual ****.
bit discouraged at first, tried to push the plug in and no luck, wasnt going anywhere, seemed to be stopping at some point.
so i found, or estimated, where it was stopping up and ground it down to nothing, and that wasnt the end of it. fitting required more and more dremel work, i had it fitting in the hole great but the rod didnt have enough room to fit for some reason.
so i ground down the **** out of the plug until it fit.
next was the actual ****, and that worked flawlessly, screwed on perfect and was an exact fit, seems to sit a bit high but it doesn't bother me at all.
onto the pics
up next is the actual seat install, but lotsa people have pictures of this so i decided to post this so far
the plugs which dont fit correct cause the handles to look taller than they actually are.
if anyone knows where to get better fitting plugs let me know.
these plugs only cost 5$ each so it was worth a shot

Very cool restoration, looks pretty good from the pics you posted. I went the other way and bought new usdm rear area covers.
Last year, picked up the lower half with carpet
More recently, bought the upper half

Re: JDM Rear Seat + OEM honda parts
amazingly the upper half in my crx is still in great shape, fabric hasn't shown any signs of separation at all.
i might be spraying it with black fabric paint this summer as well as some rear plastic parts
i also picked up some OEM flaps for the rear as well, no need for fronts as i run side skirts that remove the need for front flaps.
and here are the other parts that came along with the rear seat as the package deal
all from a UK CRX 1.5x
Velvet Door Cards, haha

Re: JDM Rear Seat + OEM honda parts
scrap that last diy collar, i found a better option
the collar for most honda/acuras is very wide and it doesn't really suit the crx rear seat, the factory collar for the jdm crx rear seat is quite a bit smaller...
i was at home depot getting some wall hooks and i stolled past the chair leg protector section and i noticed some black plastic plugs...so after further investigation (i had crx on the brain already) i decided i was gonna buy a pack and give it a shot as a replacement collar from the large one i had already.
so i bought them (pack of 4 for about 2.50$ (a quarter the price of the oem honda ones i bought previously)) so i couldn't lose, i had 4 now so i could **** up two of them and still be golden!
so i went to work, first test fit showed they were too tall by about an 1/8th of an inch, so i cut off a bit (already had a line)
next they fit nice, so i proceeded to drill a pilot hole with a drill and then dremel out the hole to make it large enough for the shaft to fit in.
no real issues here, quick and easy, fit great and here is the finished product, they are the exact same size as the actual jdm crx ones and they look OEM.
who would know they are from Home depot for 2.50$?
so forget everything i posted in that first diy

Thats cool you were able to locate a set of LHD window switches and door cards, they are extremely rare, and yous look very good! Let me know if you need the matching power window regulators, i have an extra pair if needed.
Here's a couple shots of the VT switches and door cards i had imported
Sorry, i'm not trying to jack your thread, just showing others, options for their cars

I hope to finish off my car this summer. I have pretty much almost every part now that i've wanted for this project. It's taken years for me to get to where i am.
Yes, the door harness does include the wires for the power mirrors. I have a pair of those too.

Re: JDM Rear Seat + OEM honda parts
so far crx, civic ef, civic eg, integra da, integra dc all have the same ****.
i thought about taking the ***** from a wrecked car, but i decided for 5$ it was worth it to get brand new.
