The Impound From Hell...
So my girlfriend just bought a 91 Honda Civic Hatchback. The guy said we could leave it at his house for 2 days while we got it insured and registered in her name and blah blah blah...so anyway...I go to pick it up last night and it is GONE. The guy that we bought it from says the neighbors(who have been wanting him to move the car for some time) called the police to complain. Well the police came out to take a look, they saw that it was registered in my girlfriends name and had the wrong lisence plates on it (it still had the guys lisence plates that we bought it from), the police couldn't get in touch with either the guy or my girlfriend because they were both at work at the time, so they had the car towed becuase it apparently had "stolen property" on it (the plates). Well anyway..to make a long story short I go to pick it up this morning and the passenger side headlight is smashed out and there is a dent in the hood from someone backing up into it. I was SOOOOOO angry, but there is nothing I can do..."the Impound is not responsible for stolen/broken items on the car". AHHHHHH...I should have just drove the car home without insurance the day we bought it. BAH!!!
It is a sweet car though and we got a good deal...900 bucks and it is in great shape...low miles...runs great...no dents...perfect paint...just a tiny spot of rust which will be taken car of shortly...just needs a new headlight now..grrrrrrrr
Sorry for the long post..just venting..

No matter what the impound says, you can still sue them regardless... Take a few legal classes and youll learn most of those signs that say "we are not responsible for XXXXXX" are just deterrents to lawsuits and complaints...

Re: The Impound From Hell... (animatd)
I tried to get money for the damage to my car, and the towing company just said the lot did it, and the lot said the towing company did it (towing is contracted here).
The fun part was that I broke anything they'd hand me through the bullet proof window if they looked away, and then say that the towing company must have done it (3 pencils, and 2 pens). I was young at the time, and had my car towed after getting stuck at work until 5:30 am on a shift that ended at 11:00pm, so I wasn't thinking clearly at 9:00am when the lot opened and acted a little childish.
The other fun part was driving my car out. It was really far away from the lot exit, so I just went as fast as I could and actually was able to hit 55mph in a gravel parking lot. I got a nice ebrake turn on the transition from grave to cement too. There were impound lot people yelling at me and waving their arms the whole time, but it made me feel better in the end pissing them off. Now I realize I was acting like an idiot, but at the time it was fun.
Anyway, if you can, sue, but my experiences say, consider it a bad experience and be bitter at police the rest of your life like I am, because trying to get your money will do no good.
