i have a 1989 CRX HF with a B18A1 swap with intake headers and exhaust just had the valves adjusted and the ECU chipped and the car is now retarded fast....i need a new tranny cuz the guy that had it before me ragged the tranny....im a sportbike guy and its my first honda and i really dont know where to start other than a new tranny "DUH"...what would you guys do with this thing?

Well if you want terrible highway gas mileage but quick acceleration get a b16a tranny or if you want long gears go GSR tranny.

I would play around with it some. I have the same setup. Its quick, but not as fast as what I normally like to drive. However 34 mpg is nice to have.

I guess it depends on how much you have to spend, research it, see this is why these "what's the best" questions are always fail its just personal opinion see what are the pros and cons of each transmission using good ole Google so then you can say I want so and so transmission cause these are my goals instead of me just saying get a s1 and then you can't afford it or its not in your goals if you knew more about your car you could build it how you want it the first time, instead of what you were told was good but was impractical for you.

fixed. b16 and gsr transmissions are quite similar. the ls has the longest of all of them.

if your not doing too much highway driving get a b16a tranny thats the set up in my rex with a b18b1. it will be fun around town but pretty annoying on the highway. and yes i would do a bunch of suspension work. these little cars can handle like go carts on roids with the right stuff.. and no cheap *** ebay sleeves either they ride absolutely horrible and you will hate yourself for having them. my car came with a set and they were brutal.

HAHA it is quick it rapes my roomates 93 prelude with the h22a swap not the h22a1...before the tune he walked the rex but now that the valves have been adjusted and the ecu has been chipped i walk him SOOO bad even with no 5 gear haha....and haha "ive never ridin in a fast car before" whatever dude...I RIDE a 1998 suzuki tl1000r if you wanna talk about fast

and thanks guys ive been researching b series trany's and am learning alot....the b16 does sound nice....but has alot of sync row problems...and i plan on boosting...

What makes you think it automatically "needs a new tranny"? Just cause it has a noise or wont pop a gear? Heck if you're gonna throw it out though let me have it!!

ok so you have a fast bike, woopdeedoo. so saying the car was retarded fast was either just stupid, or a poor attempt at conveying sarcasm.

sync row problems? it's synchro. and it's not just the b16 tranny, almost all d-series and b-series trannsmissions have synchro problems. the combo of high mileage and people beating the **** out of them will do that.

How come in Hondas every time someone says there is a problem with their trannys its the syncros? Do 1/2 of the people on here even know how syncros work or what they do???

well the guy changed the spec on the valves...it was a brand new head so im asuming the valves were adjusted properly already...lol...he adjusted the valves to his liking to go with the chip he put in the ecu

oh and about the sync row spellin....does it really matter how i type it....u still know exactly wut im talking about i didnt come on here for your lil d*ck smart *** attitude, came on here for peoples opinion....like i said before im fresh out the gate when it comes to ANYTHING with four wheels...and thanks to the people that are trying to help instead of picking out bull **** in peoples posts to make them feel better about them selves and their small ***** lol.

well ,, fix the tranny problem first--trust

By the time, ur all motor/ fully built (lol) your tranny will be broken in and smooth

I got a b16 tranny wit a b16a2,,,tranny to be runs shorter than i like.. tops out at around a 112mph.. haven't smashed throu all gears well poping V,, but i knw it go past 120... Its chipped, straight piped,, with stock headers/intake.. so dn't wanna pop a piston so dats reason for not reving til 9rpm.. BUt hey, my rex launches off the line and just flyies thro the gears.. Ive been thinkn to change my 4th and 5th gears to get a highR top speed...but i say its a hydro gsr or b16 slammer... am going to get a b18 gsr bottom block to help fix my low high end speed...hoping the .2 liter and displacment give me a better base line b4 i get into internals and hi comp pistons motor rebuild...

but do ur homework and compare your two favs...remember thou ,,,booooosting or all motor has to be decided,,and money budget but the most important thing,,, Patience...with any build honda or american muscle..

I am in the same position as you. Just bought a CRX with a working motor and lights and thats about it haha. I need to restore it but this is my first time with a older Honda or 'Rex' and I am in serious need of some rim choices and paint color! '90 CRX currently Spray-painted white... (Yeah, I know, it's horrible looking. :X)

Exactly either your dog teeth or your blocking rings. And that should only happen for 1 or 2 gears not every gear. If you have grinding in EVERY gear you have a clutch/ pressure plate problem. And OP if your anger was directed at me I didnt dog you for spelling, I dogged your for saying a tranny is junk just because something isnt acting right which you didnt even mention exactly whats wrong with it or what it's doing.

yea i was thinkin about boosting in the long run as one of the final touch ups...i have a nice goldish bronze set of ADR rims im gonna be putting on the car off my roomates prelude, and my first couple paychecks at this new job will be going towards the DA integra front end...but unfortunatly we just got a 2001 eclipse V6 gt were swapping a BRAND NEW motor and making her sexy and selling her so my rex is gonna have to wait oh well...

and no i wasnt gettin on u TJ...the tranny has no 5 gear and third has a very quite grind and the throw out bearing is making alot of noise and the clutch is worn....i let my roomates brother borrow the car for paying to get my sportbike out of impound when i ran from the cops and he trashed the tranny...im not worried about making him pay for it either....he got my bike out of impound for me lol thats all i care about

honestly? just rebuild your trans. you could probably buy a cheap b16 trans that needs work, replace the syncros and bearings, and have a nice trans that will actualy hold up for a while as apposed to an unknown used one.
