i added a 5th injector
i just finished up added a 5th injector to my b18b1 crx
Setup
ls-vtec
ngk plugs msd coil ported and polished head
stock internals
Intake exhuast
The Injector [Honda b series 240cc injector]
the 5th injector uses a t fitting after the fuel filter that t's off the the
oem fuel rail and then secondly to the 5th injector in the top of the intake manifold i tested it with the fuel pump/ignition on and aimed it into a cup and it sprays a really good fine mist. i have it ran on a on&off circuit
i dont feel a hp or torque gain however
it just seems to flood the engine out.
Yes i know the extra fuel isn't measure for by the ecu nor what the computer provide via the map sensor.
i wanted to try it out anyhow. i will keep doing more test to see how to improve the setup it engages at full throttle.
and yes please don't tell me this is even more stupid because i am running
N/a.

Re: i added a 5th injector
Well... from an engineering stand-point this is a bad idea on many levels.
You just added the same garbage injection that DPFI has to your MPFI.
Good thing on your side is that it can work since some of the old school nitrous setups did something similar to your experiment.
At this point you need to tune your ECU so it understands that it needs to lessen the fuel from the stock injectors.
Expect no gains though. More fuel will decrease your power output unless you add more air to your mixture.
Even a stock motor often sees minor power gains with tuning because factory tuning is very broad so that the motor will run regardless of each motors not being exactly like the next one, driving habits, geographic locations, etc. Factory tunes are set with caution and are just a little rich. More power can be extracted just by tuning out some of the extra fuel from the factory mapping.
Even with more air, the 5th injector will not be as effective as just adding larger injectors.
The best you can ask of fuel injection is for the injectors to spray directly into the combustion chamber as Direct Injection motors do.
Second best would be like Honda's MPFI that sprays at the back of the intake valves. The injectors are timed so that they spray while the valve is open.
These types of systems allow the fuel to be atomized and mixed well with the air.
Your 5th shoots a nice mist, but as it approaches the combustion chamber it looses a lot of its atomization as it has contact with the intake runner walls and the air flow pulsing from the valves opening and closing.

Re: i added a 5th injector
Many moons ago I was presented with a similar challenge. The goal was to get a piece of 1" keystock into a 1" diameter hole. I contacted all kinds of design firms: structural engineers, mechanical engineers, pyshics professors, people from NASA, even the hippie down the street. After many years of trying different ideas and theories out, I ended up grinding the edges off and shoving it through.
You can try all you want... It isn't going to work...
P.S. - none of my story is true.

Re: i added a 5th injector
I'm sorry, but this mod doesn't seem to have been thought out very well. Why not just have the engine tuned properly? Get some 440cc injectors, they will provide more than enough fuel at a lower duty cycle and give you plenty of room to grow in the future.
Save the cash and set up your engine properly. Reliable power isn't going to be made by Jerry-rigging **** up.

Re: i added a 5th injector
hes building the spinal tap mpfi setup ..."you know like most 4 cylinders have four injectors, but this one goes to 5 and thats one more isn't it?"..."but isn't that a dumb@ss idea with no potential for success, and generally just a waste of time and money?"..."but this one goes to 5!"
i'm glad to see "Red Green" finally opened up a tuner shop...how much duct tape did you use to get this to work?

Re: i added a 5th injector
Maybe 8 injectors will work better. JK. Why do you want more fuel going into the engine. Sounds like you want a cheap nitrous setup, but your just flooding the engine with gas.

Re: i added a 5th injector
I have tons of head work done and some crazy ignition and i max out the stock honda injectors a WOT and it starts going towards learn
update- okay ****ers get this it works i wish i had money to dyno it.lol
theres a difference i have a relay circuit setup to where instead of on&off it pulses with
the stock injectors. from idle to red line i feel a continuous power gain.
and i back fire really loud in between shifts and deceleration.
okay i can imagine that many of you just read this think im nuts
but hear me out. im not screwing around this **** is really cool and im glad
i didn't listen to anyone who doubted it.

Re: i added a 5th injector
great job. It would have more power if you got it tuned as well. If its backfiring alot, you are just throwing fuel down the exhaust. Let us know how the MPG's are affected.

Re: i added a 5th injector
It's even worse now that you posted pictures... What exactly do you have done as far as your "headwork" is concerned? I have a strong doubt you are "maxing out" your stock injectors... I also doubt you have your ECU programmed even on the street...
Do you not understand that running a LS-V requires "cUzT0mZ" tuning? This mod is pointless and best of all you are running a relay to control it... A relay is a thousand times slower (not actual numbers) than the pulsewidth on injectors...

Yeah...That doesn't look like it's doing much for you. That 3/4" to 1" of hose is basically turning your "mist" into a drip man. I'm highly doubtful that the fuel is even being distributed evenly across all four runners.
Save some money and go tune your ****. This just looks like ****.

Re: i added a 5th injector
this was a rough test while i was playing around with it in the driveway i took with my phone.
The stock injector harness is a signal to the relay. its not the common relay you would figure it as.
and now the injector is no longer in the origin of the i/m it has its own custom
home drilled and recessed with a stock injector bushing and bracket.
The head has a 3angle valve job p&p itr Cams Some expensive Ngk plugs. and the whole motor is
a fresh build, around 10.000 miles on the internals or less.
Intake. throttle body coolant bypass. Exhaust High Flow Cat.
Try and hear me out i know i can just get some RC's but thats no fun.
And its not like I race my car for titles or money so i did this just to try it
so please don't act like i can't just remove it withing 5min?
And Like i said think what you want to cause this **** is working. lol
Doubt the **** out of me, Dont care You have to explore to find
**** doing what everyone always does. How did they boost the
first swaps before RC's started making injectors and others.
Honda and swapping has came a long way and is moving faster than
everyone realizes. All these beautiful builds we are seeing is proof the technology and ideas are newer than you think.

Re: i added a 5th injector
dyno my **** on the street while driving etc.
and mainly because where i live theres grave yards and gas stations no dyno or hp shops.
