how much gains will you get wit a vtec controller???
what is the max results you can get from a vtec controller if you set it on low rpms (like 4000 RPMS) are you hurting anything by doing it?

Yes...it will take a toll on your engine...Honda sets VTec activation at a certain point, 'cuz 1) it makes better power at the set RPM and 2) its safer for the engine. Setting the VTec to engage lower will make more power sooner, but the engine isn't made to hit VTec lower than what is factory programmed. It will take a toll, it might take a long time to notice it, but eventually it will. It's an easy mod (If you are familiar with electrical), and fun to play with, but if you are running stock, or even just h/i/e, you will not notice that much of a difference, except for the VTec is somewhat louder in certain cars (single cam isn't much louder, but I noticed it). Never had it on a dual cam vtec motor, so don't know how loud it gets...
I believe you only see like 1/8 of a second shaved from your 1/4 mile time...I may be wrong on the 1/8, but I'll double check.
Also, what VTec controller are you using? I'm assuming APEX'I, like most people do...but you should try a Fields VTec controller. You can put it in places that makes it look stock. It's only the size of a Turbo Timer, and doesn't attract unwanted attention to your car, like APEX'I does with it's huge screen and sits on your dash, unless you do custom fab. I do like the APEX'I though...pretty neat. But the Fields does pretty much the same thing.

If you ever built a engine then you know how important cam selection is for the aplication you are going to use the motor in, a small cam is great for low end power while a large cam is great for power up in the rpms, the problem is you cant have the best of both worlds.. or can you? this is where vtec comes in, the smaller cam gets you off the line and pulling strong in the early RPMs, and then right about when those small cams are loosing their ability to make any more power the larger ones take over and you feel like you swapped motors. the proper way to set vtec is to find where this transition from smaller to larger cams makes a improvment on your cars power band, since a cars weight and gear ratio can affect this its hard to say for any given combo what is best, on my car it helped when the vtec point was rasied a little bit, the transition is now so smooth you dont even feel it. If you want to try and play around with it you could always go to the track and try and make every run the same, IE use slicks and the same shift and luanch points, and try adjusting the Vtec a little to see if you can shave any time off your base line runs.

A dyno is the only possible way to notice any gains from adjusting VTEC activation point.
Even then, it's only going to do any good on a heavily modified motor.

The reason people say it will hurt your engine if you lower the vtec engagment is because for vtec to engage it must have a curtain amount of oil pressure to engage the vtec on your cams. so if you lower it to low of a rpm and without the right amount oil pressure it will mess up you engine

I v-atak my **** at idle, it makes it sound madd cammed out y0. And the huge misfire it creates rubs da ladies just the right way...

hey everyone my friend got a vtec controller the buddy club one off of ebay but he hasnt put it in yet and he has a stock motor will the vtec controller mess his car up at all or anything is it safe to put in or should he up grade his car a bit and if so what should he upgrade

The biggest problem with vtec-controllers, is that they don't change the mixture.
Honda has set different fuel and ignition maps for both the non-vtec and the vtec range.
With a controller, the only thing you are doing, is changing the switchover point externally. The ECU doesn't know the first thing about what you are trying to do, and doesn't change the mixture until the program tells it to.
So if you're setting your vtec early, you are starving the motor and leaning it out.
Engine damage is not only imminent, but guaranteed on the long term.
But hey, it sounds badass. Who cares about reliability and longevity right?
So, basically, vtec controllers are utterly useless.

engaging VTEC at too low an rpm will cause a loss of power...the lifespan of your engine will not be affected.....Running the higher lif/duration cam is more beneficial at higher rpm.
Wouldn't recommend a switching the vtec crossover unless you do a dynotune.
