Default Halp with my 91 crxHF

I just bought a 91 HF and it had 15'' rims on it. I cahnged to the stock 13'' rims and now my shift indicator light ( arrow lites up when it is optimal to shift for gas milage ) is all out of whack. Anyone ever experiance this or know whay to do ???

What size tire did you have before and what size do you have now?

hahahahah shift indicator light.
I say pull the bulb out.
Honestly, do you need a lil light to tell you when to shift?

It had 15" tires on it and I put the recommended 13" stock tires back on it

Wow that's mature for a 51 year old.
You have also said two different things here. Did you switch from 15" to 13" tires or wheels because if it's wheels then that shouldn't make a difference as long as you have the right sidewall height on your tires. Also assuming the height of your wheel tire combos are different shouldn't the stock combo give the correct shift light timing not make it out of whack. I doubt it was recalibrated for the 15" tires or wheels because I would guess that would require chipping the ecu or something complicated like that.

Actually I think the light should be based on engine rpm not speed so the light shouldn't have changed what rpm it comes on at because the wheel size has no effect on that. What would change would be what speed you reach that rpm at in any specific gear. So I don't see how the wheels could have caused your problem. Maybe someone else has more insight however so I will shut up now.

First, don't make stupid insults, please.

Second, the shift light is based off throttle position and rpm and all that good stuff. 15 inch wheels generally have more rotational inertia (what people call 'heavier' on here), so they take more to accellerate, causing you to be more heavy on the throttle to take off at the same speed.

Also, you didn't respond when asked the tire size. Stock 13 inch tire size is 175/70/13 and stock 14 inch tire size is 185/60/14. Both of these tire sizes are virtually the same outer diameter, leaving the gearing the same. A 195/50/15 will also give you this same diameter. If your wheel has a larger (or smaller, but not likely as this is already pretty low profile) diameter, it will throw your gearing off, also affecting your shift light. These things aren't really geniuses anyway, I'd just ignore it or disconnect it if it bothered me.

-well said
by the way--am I the only one who was confused by him simply saying its out of whack? What does this mean? Does it come on at a very high rpm? very low? is it inconsistent? (assuming throt. pos. and gear choice are the same) It seems like the difference between the 15s and 13s wouldnt really make the light go out of wack

I hadn't thought about using the tps and rpm that's interesting. If that's the case then yeah even the same size wheels could have different shift points. I doubt it makes that much of a difference however. Whatever the op doesn't seem to care anyway.

My shift light doesn't even work any more. The only time it lights up is when I first cut the car on.

as it has been said previously I don't think that the wheel size would make a difference unless the tire's sidewall isn't the right size. It also seems absurd that the stock wheel and tire diameter would make the shift light go all out of sink. What is the rpm rate at when the light comes on btw?
