the real question is, can I use the TB without that thing.....

Looks like its just a device to keep the throttle open while idle...... But I was wondering that I could adjust the TB cable a little tighter and it will do the job ?

U need it. Pulling the cable tighter isn't the best soultion since it also acts as a buffer to slow down the throttle closing so the engine doesn't choke and die.

Isn't needed except for Auto's, and in later years the ECU's negated their existence.

Dashpot. Not needed. It slows the closing of the throttle when you are engine braking. Most likely an emissions thing.

Holy crap! Is that why when you get off the throttle you can hear some combustion taking place in the exhaust for about 3 seconds?

Jesus wrong part!

It's on older B16's looks kinda like that, and is on the front of the intake manifold. I'll take a picture later to end the confusion.

Awful picture, but might give you a idea of what I'm talking about

I forget what those things are, but I'm pretty sure nothing needs to be hooked up to it, my B16A didnt have anything on em. It's something the DA Teg uses.

What's so funny?

Let me discribe the occurance a little more clearly. When I let off the throttle completely, the engine burbles and pops for about three seconds which to me would indicate that there is some amount of partial throttle being applied or atleast there is a small amount of fuel being burnt for a moment. After this three seconds the engine goes to straight engine braking and the burbling is absent.

I had always assumed this was a product of the ecu's control over the engine. It would be cool if I could simply disconnect this dashpot and have the engine go straight to braking like most cars do.
