Distributor and oil problem
I seem to have oil leaking onto the block and tranny mating serface from the distributor. I replaced the rubber o ring on the rotor but it still leaks. I also get oil in the distributor and don't know what to do to fix it. Anyone had this problem and fixed it? Any suggestions?

Maybe the bearing inside the dizzy is screwed up..
Or maybe the rubber o-ring you used is the wrong size..
I was going to say the cam seal but sohc motors dont have cam seals on the left side..

I put Hondabond on my distributor o ring when I replaced it for leaking. A month later and it's dry as a bone under there.

Re: Distributor and oil problem (drdisco69)
Mrspeaker: How do you know if the bearings bad? The rubber o ring isn't the wrong size becase i used a rubber o ring from a HF that didn't leak and it still does.
Drdisco69: Someone told me to use honda bond, but I just wanted more input. Did your dist leak oil into it also? or just leak oil out onto the block/tranny case?

If you're leaking into the distributor, then the bearings inside are probably bad. I was just leaking around the o ring, as it had hardened and turned into plastic like they all do. If it's getting inside there's other problems.

take teh dist cap off and look to see if there is red dust on the inside. red dust=bad bearing.
if you have oil inside there=bad bearing.
really sucks because even used ones aren't cheap.

It might be the distributor housing. I had Honda replace my o-ring about 18,000 miles ago and it started to leak again. I told my service manager that it was replaced then - I've been going to him for over 2 years - but he said that this distributor wore out and that the distributor housing, not the guts, have to be replaced. Ordered it and they're just going to transfer the guts to the new housing when it arrives.

Crap man, the housing itself is expensive. probably as much if not more than a used one. I can't tell if there is red dust in the dist. because theres oil in there. I've heard there is another seal inside, is this true?
