D16ZC Wont pass emissions.
Ok so I got this hatch around 2 weeks ago. Ran it through emissions and it failed. Badly. Read 389 HC and 2.97CO Limits aare 220 and 1.20.
This is when I found out the complete evap canister was missing from the motor and was ran completely incorrect. Went to the junkyard and found one and fixed it.
Reran it today with a bottle of alcohol in it and it read 308 Hc and 2.34 CO
My main question is I dont have a cat on it at all but somehow it passed the visual inspection. If I install a cat will it clean the exhaust enough to pass or is something motor wise running incorrectly on here. I have not messed with the ignition timing at all so I am sure I can run it back if that would help. Just need ideas Id like to get it to pass this next run.

what state are you in. The test they performed is a two speed idle. since you dont have any nox numbers. I need some more information. What mods have u done to the car. what ecu do you have. is your coolant temp sensor in good working order, when is the last time you tuned up car. is your o2's hooked up, when is the last time you had an oil change.

A cat would defenitly help. But thats really all i know. I live in Kansas no emissions, drive a turbo lsvtec with a 4 inch exhaust dump right out the side of my bumper lolz.

I live in Cali, toughest state to pass
I did pass because it isnt a state legal swap, but got tested any way.
Run a PM6 (Stock SI) ECU
Catylic
Good Gas
Igntion Timing a little lower then 18 deg.
Good Luck

I got my jdm DOHC ZC to pass smog in Cali too, they tested mine like a d15b2 since thats what the BAR sticker said. It passed that test with a pm6 too (failed with PG7 and 91 gas) and 87 gas. Tune up, cat , new O2 and warmed up good.

Is the motor stock. i would change the oil , check the plugs to make sure they are nice and clean. if they are dirty i would change them. when i asked about the coolant temp sensors you have two of them one for the gauge cluster and one for the ecu to adjust the air fuel ratios. if the sensor is bad it will make the ecu think the car is always cold even though the car is warm.

Hey, which of the two coolant temp sensors aids in adjusting the AFR's?

Put on a cat still failed. Looked into this issue further and found my Exhaust cam shaft was off by 1 tooth. Reset crank to TDC and reset my cams. Holy **** this motor came alive. Gonna rerun tomarrow and see what happens

You should pass now. the converter wasn't the issue here because they aren't testing for nox. Good Luck. The new numbers should be in the 1.10hc and .068co range.

If it was me no. just move the dizzy so the bolt hole is in the middle postion. Rev the car for 60seconds at 2000 t0 2800 rpms. Then let it idle for 60 seconds if it doesn't smell rich you should pass.
