D16Z5 head on D16A6 Block , WTF ??
Hey guys,
Well having some issues with my CRX ED9.
Here we go:
I got to the junkyard one day and seen this ratty CRX and well, i wanted it and bought it for 350$ with almost nothing wrong, needed some tires and batterie and I welded the exhaust and some TLC !
Well it ran like craaazy I can tell you, almost no holding on to that beast.
Well with the time I built it and now I'm looking at the details and found out the block is stamped with D16A6 ,which is a vtech block and the D16A6 is a SOHC. The head is DOHC though, so D16Z5 right.
I'm wondering what the **** is goin on and been researching and didn't come up with **** !
It runs like a **********er I can tell you, damn that thing pulls like crazy, but i'm confused and now i'm looking for answeres!
Can anybody help me out ?
Here are pics of the tag of the car and the block !

as far as i know the a6 was the single cam non VTEC motor from the states, not sure what it was used for over on your side of the country... that looks like a crazy motor tho. can you post more pix of it?

Take pictures from the top showing the head, its probably just a mini-me swap if its swapped at all. i dont think the DOHC ZC head will bolt directly to the D16A6 block. i could have sworn 1 of the oil passages was off as well as a head bolt.

It could only be 2 things, a ZC engine which i doubt if the engine code is D16A6, can anyone confirm if the ZC head bolts onto the A6 block i dont remember that far back lol. Also the acura integra older models had that engine in it but i never seen one swapped into a CRX before.

That's pretty weird man. A dohc zc head does not just bolt on to an a6 bottom end. Only thing I can think of is that the d16a6 is dohc in Europe? doubt that though.
That stamp on the block doesn't look factory either.

its probably just the original d16z5 engine and someone decided to try and make there own d16a6 stamp. cus that block stamp does not look legit at all. and a d16z5 is pretty much a zc/d16a9. the a9's didnt come with a cat in europe and the z5's did.

If you look at the stamp on the engine, the letters and numbers arent inline. As the others say earlier in the post it doesnt look legit. It just doesnt look like OEM stamping. The D stamp looks too far from the letters to be OEM. That stamp doesn't look correct at all. Good luck finding out what the deal is.

look at the block code on the back of the block, at the bottom, where the bottom bolt goes thru the block into the transmission - DOHC ZC, D16A8, D16A9 and D16Z5 will have a block code PM7
